Am I allowed to count the number of cards in my graveyard?

My deck was running a little thin and my opponent had a Forced Fruition out. I want to see how many spells I can play before I mill out. My friends and I play casually, and one insists that I'm not allowed to count. That CAN'T be right, but I let it go to avoid him flipping the table. I ended up winning anyway, but it'd be nice to get the ruling to slap back in his face (or for my knowledge if he was right).

You're also allowed to go ahead and count the cards in a library if that's what you're really interested in.
401.3. Any player may count the number of cards remaining in any players library at any time.

Yes.
404.2. Each graveyard is kept in a single face-up pile. A player can examine the cards in any graveyard at any time but normally cant change their order.
Any player may look at any other's player graveyard at any time.
