-1/-1 and regeneration
Asked by Drakrhal 12 years ago
Ok, so let's say I have a 2/2 with regeneration on the field and choose to block a creature. Then my opponent uses Rix Maadi Guildmage to give my creature -2/-2, essentially killing it. Can I regenerate this, and does the -2/-2 persist if I do?
Regeneration's reminder text states: "The next time this permanent would be destroyed this turn, it isn't. Instead tap it, remove all damage from it, and remove it from combat."
The -1/-1 from the guildmage isn't damage thus it can't be removed; this leaves your creature with 0 toughness and is put into the graveyard.

No, regenerate only prevents destroy effects, and dying to 0 toughness isn't a destroy effect.
