when do blocks rotate out?

I don't understand when cards stop being permitted in the standard format. How does the rotation out and in work? When?

Standard consists of the most recent "Core Set" release and the two most recent "Block" releases, with one exception. "Rotation" occurs every fall when the first set of the new "Block" releases and becomes Standard Legal. From the time the new "Core Set" is released in early summer, until rotation occurs, 2 core sets are legal. The current Standard set includes Return to Ravnica, Gatecrash, Dragon's Maze, the Magic 2014 core set, Born of the Gods, Journey into Nyx, Theros, and the Magic 2015 Core Set (effective July 28, 2014)

The block from two years ago (Return to Ravnica in this case) and last summer's core set (Magic 2014) rotate out at the same time when the new block (Khans of Tarkhir) becomes standard legal in late September/early October.
So there is a period of time when RTR block, Theros block, M14 and M15 will all be standard legal between July and October.

Yes, Extended is no longer a supported format. It has been killed off for awhile now, so that Wizards could focus on Modern. (might not be their actual reasoning, just my observations.)

I think new core set time and the month before (now) is the best time to grab those O.P RTR Block cards and M14 ones you wanted but never pulled and didn't want to fork out big dough for because and no offense to the poster, people and I mean noobies and young kids don't get how rotation works and start making rotation friendly decks right before a new core release and puts up all their previous block stuff for sale driving the prices down because they were told they are rotating out not realizing they have near 5 months to play those cards and they maybe included in a M15 build thats T1 . Anyway June-July is a buyer/sellers dream.

Blocks rotate in the fall, when the first set of the new block is released. This usually happens around the end of September. So this fall, when Khans comes out, RTR and M14 will both rotate out together, and the remaining legal sets will be: Theros, Born of the Gods, Journey Into Nyx, M15, and the first set from Khans.
