Modern and Legacy Question?

I am a fairly new player so this could possibly be a silly question to ask.

I know Modern and Legacy are two different formats but can you play Legacy cards in the Modern format?

Modern, is 8th edition forward and a banlist with things that are too powerful.

Leagcy is all cards in mtg + a banlist for things deemed too powerful/unsuitable.

So no you can't play all legacy cards in modern even though some cards of the two formats overlap.

You can play some cards that are legal in legacy, but not all of them. Remember legacy has older sets, and some things like Stoneforge Mystic are banned in modern.
