Which MTG set has the most banned cards in it?

I'm wondering which MTG sets have had the most cards banned in them. This could be for any format, so a card being banned in multiple formats would count each instance, and unbannings would not retract this count.

My initial assumption would be Alpha 1993, Mirrodin 2003 and Eldraine 2019 would be some combination of 1 2 and 3 on the list, but I'm not sure how to check this quickly. Does anybody know an easy way to compile cards banned per set? Thanks!

If you don't care what format they were banned in, a scryfall search for is:spikey unique:prints will show all versions of all cards that were at one point banned in a format. In the linked search they're all sorted by set as well.

A quick peek at the named sets shows the following number of bans

  • ELD (12)
  • LEA (41)
  • MRD (14)

I suspect LEA is close to most, if you're not counting the master sets.

Thank you so much Delphen7! Is there any way you know so that it only includes the original printings in the search as well? That may be more difficult...

Instead of unique:prints use is:firstprint to show only the first printing of each card :)
