When playing with friends, what do you use for +1/+1 counters?
Just a general discussion.
I use dice :-)

I think they're easy to keep track of and you don't need multiple items on your cards :-)
Any idea what is used in tournaments?

Mini dice for me. They're about half the size of normal 6 sided dice. I have been known to use a piece of paper with a number written on it when things get out of hand.

Haha Bellock86 I have resorted to bits of paper as well :-)
I have an app on my phone to keep track of life and creature tokens as well.

I like to have the card for creature tokens. I'll modify tokens with mailing labels to account for those that are hard to find or don't exist. With my Prosh EDH deck, I've gathered at least one card token for each type the deck makes, and then I keep track of multiples with face-down lands from the draft land rack at the shop or empty sleeves.
I reserve dice for other counters like +1/+1 etc. I bought a pound of dice from chessex that gave me some really nice 6-siders that have a symbol for the "6" that I use to mark detain and other effects. I also have a container of purple mini-six-siders that I use to mark +1/+1's.

@girlsplayMTGtoo ~ lol. Kinda have to when you have a creature that has 128 +1/+1 counters on it. Lol. Even I don't have that many dice and I'm a tabletop RPG player. Lol

I, too, use mini dice. If things get crazy, I'll use spindowns to keep track.

@Bellock86 for 128 +1/+1 counters, you just need 3d10's. That's what I use for life in EDH (usually I only need two 10-sided dice.) I find paper blows around too easily.

We actually use pieces from an old Risk board (small X's, not the newer mini soldier pieces). Because there are mulitple colours it covers everything from counters to creature tokens.
My favorite was using a bag of M&M's though. You are never so happy to loose a token as when you get to eat it if it dies.

Good point Korombos. Never really thought about doing it that way. Lol

The TappedOut forum is for site-related questions (as in tech support stuff). Moved to General.
I have an assortment of dice. Spindowns for life totals (unless I'm playing in an event, in which case I use paper and pad), white D6es for +1/+1 counters, black D6es for -1/-1 counters, silver D6es or D10s for charge/special counters.

I have a Crown Royal bag I use to carry my dice around in, I have like 10 D20's (prereleases, event decks and the like), a few D6'S, a Single D4, and a Single D10. For life I use my iPad or my lifepad that has my store logo on it. I also keep about 10-15 pennies and some teck deck wheels for like charge counter and stuff. and Tokens are generally represented by the token made for that creature, if I don't have one on hand I just use a die, but I try and keep copies of all tokens I use on me.

In tournaments players usually use the same things for counters they use at FNM. It's easier for judges to keep track of token cards, but it's not required.
At the World Championships last year, one player (could have been Lee Shi Tian?) took a beaded bracelet off his wrist and used that because neither player had any tokens or dice to use! A judge went off in search of token cards and replaced the bracelet within a minute.

I'm too cheap to buy a minidice box, so I use my Pathfinder dice set. It does come in handy with Kalonian Hydra :D
As for tokens, I try to get as many kewl tokens as possible, sometimes trading for them. If push comes to shove and neither of us has the correct token, then I use one with the same P/T or a facedown basic land.

6 sided die, but before that I have used beer bottle caps and when those weren't available (I lived in an apartment with heavy smokers, including myself) we used cigarette butts...that's about the time we decided to get something more official
