No doubt maxon, the two cages are ridiculous, I'm kinda shocked to see that in a Magic card art. The hyper-sexualized girl in the one directly behind him and the masticated corpse in the one on the other side of his throne, that's really gross.
November 30, 2013 9:38 a.m.
On what planet is the girl in the cage "Hyper-sexualised"? Because she's wearing somewhat tattered clothes? Like a prisoner in a cage does?

o.0 she's just evocative of an early art style used in "men mags", I'm not freaking out about it, just saying it's more mature stuff than you usually see in a fantasy game for ages 13 and up
November 30, 2013 9:44 a.m.
Still not seeing it at all.
The early "pin-up" art style used in those magazines is about as un hyper-sexualised as you can get and still be a "men's mag" as you put it. I doubt she'd even make my top 100 sexualised magic cards. Not when you have the cavalcade of Rebecca Guay's willowly blonds, and all the recent creepy bondage women in B/W

I have a feeling you think I meant an adult mag, I was talking about something like Man's Life:
http://listverse.com/2011/12/04/top-ten-mans-life-magazine-covers/
Where the female is depicted as having exaggerated breasts, a damsel in distress demeanour and usually in a pose or position that's pretty unrealistic for the situation; hence Blood Baron's well-developed slave girl leaning forward and looking pouty. Once again, I'm not raging over the art or anything, just commenting on the fact it's spicier than the average (and personally I kind of like that; realistically this is a grown-up's game and as a fun of pulp culture I think Magic could take more risks) but you seem VERY combative about this soo, excuse me?
Postscript, Guay is usually usually pretty tasteful, and isn't a "creepy bondage woman" in recent B/W EXACTLY what we're looking at?

earthbind is definately more sexual. open mouth and everything lmao
November 30, 2013 12:14 p.m.
I can't tell a single thing about this woman's breasts, exaggerated or otherwise, with the loose fitting ratty shirt she is wearing. She also doesn't even look very 'in distress' by her facial expression. I mean, she's in a cage next to a corpse in a cage, so it's pretty clear she's not -happy- about it, but "Big breasted woman distressed woman looking pouty" is not at all what I see here.

Okay. Sorry I made you sad. Please try to have a good day. =)

I really hope that people don't view this card as "hypersexualized". Some cards are like that. I don't really think that Earthbind is either. This is a fairy (often they aren't completely covering all their skin with clothing - it's a fairy thing). Lack of clothing in and of itself is not always meant to be sexual. Sometimes it is meant to indicate a sort of closeness with nature. That's how I look at most or all fairy art.
Every time a girl is wearing a bikini style outfit it is not porn. Every time a girl in a picture has her mouth open it isn't supposed to mean something or be taken a certain way. Some people seem to see porn everywhere that they look. I think they are the ones that should think about why that might be the case.
Don't get me wrong, some things are "hypersexualized". But sometimes I feel like I'm in a math class drawing cubic functions and all the immature boys in the back start laughing because they think I am drawing boobies.
Good grief!
November 30, 2013 1:46 p.m.
But don't get me wrong - actually making very lude jokes or actually having altered card art that is actually sexualized is still something that I think is better not dealt with on a public blogsite - it can get out of hand fast.

Lewd* and if you guys insist on debating; the generally accepted definition of over-sexualized, or hyper-sexualized, or exaggeratedly erotic, is "a depiction of the male or female form that is presented so ideally that it is unusual and unrealistic compared to the real-life average"
Currently, 69.2% of American adults over the age of 20 are overweight, with 35.9% being above the obesity mark (to be classified as obese you need to be ~40% comprised of fat) thus, ANY depiction of a male or female that is not overweight, or any depiction of three humans wherein there isn't an overweight member, an obese member, and an "in-shape" member is an unrealistic depiction, and thus, by definition, almost every Magic card in existence is a bit sexualized. Kresh the Blood-braided, Earthbind, Blood Baron AND his captive, just about every character.
This said, it seems like I got out the community's pitchforks and torches by using the phrase "hypersexualized". Understandably in less mature social sects (I imagine a lot of you still attend high school, for example) and among certain demographics, "dem's fightin' words" and usually using a phrase like "hypersexualized" gets people all fired up because they think the user is decrying something, or protesting, or as r3v13w said, something about laughing because boobs. The fact is, saying something is a bit exaggerated in sensuality and making a big deal out of it aren't stapled together at the hip. Like I said before, almost every Magic card in existence depicts an unrealistic standard for male and female physical beauty, probably because it's a FANTASY game. Commenting on that fact doesn't mean I have an issue with it, or that I'm doing whatever r3v13w said. I'm new to this community and still getting the hang of the tempo of it; evidently using adult phrases in casual conversation plucks some nerves, so, sorry I guess? I hope there's a suggestion board, this site probably needs hardcoded censors.

Yep - and it should be 4th degree polynomials more likely than cubics (although a mind in a gutter could see it either way - or any way, really).
I guess that a bunch of other people were taking your words toward the porn side and I was reacting to them just as much as you (or more).
I think that a big part of the issue is the advertising / commercializing media. If you look at commercials and music videos, they are rife with this kind of "hypersexualization" that you mention (but I wouldn't call it pornographic - even if some people might). In fact, the live performances of some music acts and their videos and certain commercials are much worse than any of these cards!
I guess that the "suggestive" and the "idealized physicality" don't seem quite like porn - more like it can be "read into" or "lead people's thinking". But there is still a difference that sometimes gets blurred.
Sorry if I sounded like I was ranting too much ... I wasn't thinking very precisely (as you can see by my spelling mistake etc.) or aiming anything at any one person. I guess this is a sensitive issue - all the more reason to leave it alone!

I think we can all agree that cards have art, and that we have opinions.
November 30, 2013 2:35 p.m.
@VaultTechy Thank you for the implication that by objecting to hyperbolic language, it means I must be a highschooler.
The word 'Hypersexualised' in this context is generally referring to things like the artwork for Dragon's Crown (Which has been all over video game news for ages now) which is, I think you'll be unable to disagree, hypersexualised.
You were being alarmist. I don't care whether you were applying the label of 'hypersexualised' to comdemn, decry, describe, support, or masturbate furiously over. My objection is that you're misapplying the word. Your motive for choosing it doesn't enter into it.
November 30, 2013 2:52 p.m.
Yes, people can have their opinions. I think it is important, however, to distinguish between those opinions which rely on inference, association, and assumption - and those opinions which rely on nothing more than direct observation. Of course everything is interpretable, but not all interpretations incorporate the same level of abstraction. Some opinions are more simplified and direct than others. The further people move from the simple and direct towards greater and greater levels of hidden meanings, the harder it becomes to communicate clearly leading to more and more misunderstanding.

@Devonin
You're welcome. I'm sorry, but you just don't seem to be mature enough to have this discussion, I made the assumption you're just not old enough but if you're a graduate with undergraduate sensibilities then I guess that's reasonable too. Either way as I've said several times already, please find a way to relax. This is a forum for trading cards where a user mentioned that a depiction was surprisingly adult in nature. The fact you're reacting as though you've been personally attacked and offended by that user's statement is really the only alarmist thing here; what have I detracted from your quality of living by saying "the girl in that picture is pretty oversexualized"? What personal suffering has thought brought you? None? Then you have no reason to react so bitterly. I've got freedom of speech and opinion and I've wronged nobody so, why do you feel the need to get up in arms about this? I would, maaaaybe understand if I was being alarmist and said something like "this card should be banned/recalled" or "How dare Wizards of the Coast print this!!" but the extent of my statement was that it surprised me, and you're acting as though I'm attacking your livelihood because I used a word you dislike.
In addition, you can't tell me what context I meant my own statements in, whether or not it's "generally referring" to something does not mean that is what I personally was getting at. If you're trying to say you misunderstood my original post then you can apologize for getting aggressive and I'll accept your apology, but then in your next paragraph you try to tell me how I was behaving (once again using general context and not the specific situation) and seem to be trying to debate the point again, so I'm confused. The point is you're very, very wrong, very very rude and no one else is interested in discussing this except you, so can we please go back to trying to find OP's picture of Blood Baron?

All three of you guys need to chill. Fuck's sake, someone finds something provocative and you don't. Seriously, just drop it.
And I am a high schooler. That doesn't mean we can't act like adults.

Thanks Matsi883 however when I go to save the image you posted it redirects me to the smaller version before you resized it, could you resize and save it, then post it up here, Thanks again.
