What is an event deck, and how does it differ from the intro decks already out???
If you look at the event deck list it is much more advanced than a simple intro pack deck. It comes with 10 rares including a shockland. It is also a standard playable deck and was designed so that if someone wants to play at fnm but does not have a deck they can buy an event deck and have it ready to go.

The event deck is made to be played at a fnm and give the player a reasonable chance at winning. It is constructed to be tournament playable. Intro decks aren't that good and actually have a few bad cards in them and made to teach players how to play the game, introduce them into the game and deck building. Players are meant to find the find cards and replace with the packs provided in the intro pack. Though event decks can and should be improved on (for example the theros one has a single Hallowed Fountain , it can use 3 more). The cards in general are just better playables.

ahh ok, that's cool. Are they really FNM competitive, or just more competitive than the intro decks?

The Theros Event Deck is actually a really decent start to a White Weenies deck. With just a few additions, it has potential to do surprisingly well at FNM, possibly even Top 8.

They're more competitive than intro decks, but depending on your LGS, they may not be truly FNM competitive. If you have an event deck and face a player of equal skill who has a pro tour worthy deck, with playsets of shocklands and the best cards in the format, they will generally win.
That being said, event decks are a great way to jump into FNM's, since they offer a decent power level and high consistency.

after doing some more searching, I actually found the list for the Theros event deck. It is definitely more competitive than the intro decks. Even if it's not FNM competitive it still seems like it would be a good way to acquire some really nice cards for less than buying them as singles. Ok I have another question, are these decks only available at the Theros game day event, or will the be for normal sale like the intro decks. I only ask because I've never seen any other event deck for sale, and only recently heard mention of the Theros one.

It'll be for sale only at your LGS and places that host FNM. It will be for sale as long as the store has product, not just for (and might be in stock before) game day. These you won't find at walmart or similar.

Ahh, ok, I normally get boosters and such from my local shop, but like I said, I've never seen any other event decks from other sets. So with the Theros game day event coming up at the same time the Event deck is being release I thought maybe it might just be a special sales event for game day.

If you haven't seen them before, urge your LGS to get them or save one for you. Just make sure they know of your interest. Also you can order them online, here is a listing for the M14 event deck on amazon as an example, if your LGS doesn't/won't/can't have them in stock.

well, I used to play a long time ago, then got out of magic for quite a few years and only more recently gotten back into it. So like you said before as long as the store has product to sell they'll be available, so i'm guessing that there just isn't any in stock from the other sets which is why I've never seen them

An event deck is a tournament-level deck that contains more competitive cards than their intro deck counterparts. Event decks contain 10 rares and multiple playsets of cards, where intro decks contain two rares, more 1's and 2-ofs, and two sealed booster packs.
Intro packs are meant for new players who are just getting started with mtg.
Event decks are more expensive, and geared towards players who know how to play, but want a semi-competitive deck for FNM's that's customizable yet will stand a chance in a FNM.
