Can you use your tap ability at any point in game example I was playing someone 1 on 1 and I had his graveyard grinding out he had a Elixir of Immortality out...so i put out a card:Tormod's Crypt so when I tapped my TC and said exile your graveyard, he paid his 2 tapped Elixir of Immortality and put his graveyard and Elixir of immortality on top of his library and shuffled...does he not have to wait his turn to do Elixir of Immortality ability?...I could be wrong just wondering thanks guys!!

From the Comprehensive Rulebook (worth a perusal, very helpful):

112.3b Activated abilities have a cost and an effect. They are written as [Cost]: [Effect.][Activation instructions (if any).] A player may activate such an ability whenever he or she haspriority. Doing so puts it on the stack, where it remains until its countered, it resolves, or itotherwise leaves the stack. See rule 602, Activating Activated Abilities.

More or less, if he was able to cast an instant at that time he was able to use his Crypt.

Tap abilities can be used on anybody's turn (except for creatures with Summoning Sickness). When you used the Crypt, you passed priority to him to respond to the ability. Had he not been able to, he would have lost his graveyard. But he had the Elixer, and as long as he was able to meet the requirements of activating the ability, he had the option to do so. He took the priority to essentially counter your Crypt.

The way around that is to wait until he tries to activate the Elixir, then you Crypt his graveyard in response. Or wait until he taps out and can't pay the 2 activation on the Elixir then hit him with the Crypt.
