Can decks with more then 60 cards be successful?
Hjaltrohir says... #3
In short, yes but it is better to have it below 60, take it from all the experts.

It's actually a horrible idea to have your deck below 60 cards. Shoot for 60 exactly.

Don't be self conscious about the size of your deck, there are plenty of people out there who will accept you no matter how big or small your deck is.
In all seriousness though from a statistical standpoint 60 cards is optimal for decks.

ThatJunkMage I meant 60 cards, I know you aren't allowed less in competitive play.

Yes, but you should still only play 60. The statistical impact of the 61st card is very small during any single game, but it does add up in a significant way if you look at the long term effect over many games.

Yup the mainboard should be 60 cards for game 1. It is reasonable to sideboard up to 62 in game 2 and 3 depending on the deck and match up.

You can't sideboard up to anything other than your starting number. If your deck had 60 cards in game one it better have 60 in game two. Otherwise it's considered cheating

cosmokai2000 rules state a minimum of 60 cards main and a maximum of 15 side.

@cosmokai2000: The rules about Sideboards changed last year. Your starting decklist must have at least 60 cards and your sideboard must have no more than 15 cards. The numbers after boarding have to stick to those restrictions, but they don't have to be the same as the starting numbers. If you show up with 60 main and 15 board for Game 1 then it's fine to board into 62 main and 13 board for Games 2-3. It's not okay to board into 59 main and 16 board.

I do, however, believe that the deck should never go above 60 cards, even in games 2-3

Unless you wanna go for the Battle of Wits win, stick to 60.

Came here to mention Battle of Wits, and I see that I've been beaten to it. Ah well...
Anyways, it's rarely worth it. I might consider it if I was playing against a mill player, but in general it just shouldn't be done.

Rhadamanthus and Rasta_Viking29 I knew the rules had changed, but I was not aware of that. I apologize

Somewhere I heard that statistically 60 is always better unless the 61st card is a draw card that would be cut otherwise.

I'm going to move this to General.
Also, there are many, many articles about 60 vs. 60+. I'm sure several will be linked soon.
