I just came back from a three week trip and all of my magic cards in my boxes are slightly bent. those outside of boxes so absolutely no change. Why could my magic cards be bending? Could you explain what i can do to stop it?

theres a few ways this could have happened:

waater damage, foils, or a cardbox thats too tight.

i have been taking them to the pool, but they were fine until i came back from the trip. the boxes i use are just fat pack boxes, which are pretty loose.

Humidity tends to make cards warp, keeping them in a dry place will probably help.

High humidity might do it.

Sounds like moisture seeped in. Is it all the cards or just foils?

Humidity does it, but its odd that the ones that were out of the boxes weren't bent if that was the case. If you are storing them on end in the boxes and there are not enough to keep them straight upright then it will get a lengthwise bow in it.

@ThisIsBullshit and alexthegreat38: The cards have never touched water, nor been in close promimity to water. i have taken the cards to the pool for over a year and they never bent. It was just a week ago that i noticed that when i came back, most of my cards where bent.

@brandontraps: all of them, including foils.

Gidgetimer: so if i dont have enough cards in the box, the might bend?

Depends on the kind of bending. If they're curling in it's probably humidity. If they're just bent, like hamburger style (is that even a thing anymore) then it's probably just the way you're storing them.

more specifically, they are warped. similar to this image i found on google.

I think that's probably just the way you're storing them, one of my friends had a problem with that. Try packing the boxes more tightly (don't do it too tight though otherwise you can damage things trying to get them out) or standing the boxes on end.

ok ill try that. thanks!

There's an elementary distinction between humidity and submersion. You don't have to submerge a card for it to be damaged by humidity.

i am aware of that, but the only place it might have been in a humid environment was outside. is there any way to reverse it?

As long as the cards still have physical integrity, you should be able to flatten them again with a tight-fitting deck box and maybe a little weight. It may take a while.

so are you saying i should put more cards into my box so the cards cant bend more and so the bent cards can straighten?

I heard that a good trick against humidity (which apparently works well for warped foils e.g. from the FtV series) is by putting the warped cards together with some silica gel. This should remove any excess humidity that might have crept into the paper and thus reflatten them.

RussischerZar: Thats a great idea! I use put silica gel with my filaments for my 3-D printer to keep them dry! How did i never think of this! I will definitely try this. Thanks!
