What are everyones thoughts about Bump in the Night?

Not as good as lighting bolt lacks the versitility, but still decent damage for that casting cost. The flashback seems overcosted to me though

yea if it said deals three damage this card would be so much better. and who in there right mind is going to pay 6 mana to hit someone for three?

i could see that but i dont think that would be the game plan you know. And besides everyone is going to play Surgical Extraction in sideboard and anything with flash back is going to get extracted.

it's very good.

i will be using it in my vampire deck to replace lightning bolt, and to go along side my galvanic blasts.

the flashback cost may seem high, but keep in mind that by turn 6 you may have whittled the opponent down, where that 6cmc is a bargain to do direct damage late in the game for the win.

yea i am on the fence about this one. I guess i would have to see how it plays out to make it worth while.

Taste of Blood is only used for the bloodthirst trigger, otherwise it's crap.

except the keyword is loss of life, as opposed to damage, meaning it can't trigger the bloodthirst mechanic.

well. seeing as i don't hinge all my gameplans on bloodthirst, i think I will be able to live through the day. (night).

The flashback will be pretty brutal, mark me on this one. It will be similar to how effective a Burst Lightning kicked was in the Jund days which ended many a game. This one you don't even have to save for later to get it's effectiveness, it will be sitting there for you when you need it.

I agree that this one is a good deal. One to take three life now and then it's sitting in the graveyard waiting to be paid for again. If you get into a drawn out game but whittle your opponent to three, you most likely will have the mana to make it happen.

Thats exactly what i was gona say Mpz5 turn one you drop the new vampire ;) the red cant be blocked by humans one :) or you can make them lose 3 life and when your running all over him with your vamps and hes got 3 or less life id pay for the 6 all day ery day xD thats going into my vamp deck i really like it!

This will be my actual deck :) when the set comes out! and im gona grab the instant where its 2 colorless one mountain +2/+0 vampires get first strike till end of turn but the deck is Death From Vampires the card is called Vampiric Fury google it

the fact is, it is strictly different that Bolt in too many ways for a good comparison. Let me count the ways:

  1. It's black, not red.
  2. It's a sorcery, not instant.
  3. Players only.
  4. Opponents only.
  5. Loss of life, not damage. Useful in situations in which damage would be prevented.
  6. It has flashback.

My opinion:

It has its place in black, maybe a Jund-color Twilight deck. But not a bolt replacement.
