hey all, I'm looking at trading for an expedition misty rainforest (~250) and giving up 4x bloodstained mire, 4x polluted delta, 4x thoughtseize, and 4x gitaxian probe. I would like to have the value of my collection go up over time so I can eventually trade into reprinted zen fetches, build a modern deck, etc.

just hoping to hear a few opinions on long-term value is all. I'd probably stand pat if I didn't love the misty artwork so damn much...

bad deal for you.

Why would you trade 16 modern staple cards for 1 Expedition land, that granted is worth $250~? Expedition lands won't gain that much, they're already super limited as is. The most you might gain is $50-$75, but I highly doubt you'll get someone to trade you for it, and no store will give you full value. You're better off keeping those cards. All of the Khan fetches will settle around $20-$25 in the next 6-8 months so you'd honestly lose value. Thoughtseize isn't likely to get reprinted soon, so it could easily push $30.

To be honest, I think the value of the 16 cards you're giving up will be higher than what the Expedition Misty accrues in the same amount of time. My reasoning behind that is based on the fact that those 16 cards are wanted by by anybody needing copies of the cards, whereas an EXP Misty is only wanted to collectors and a small percentage of die-hard gamers.

So here is my opinion on expeditions in general, if you like them trade for them. If you really want an irreplaceable almost one of a kind promo foil for your edh deck because everytime you look at it you will just absolutely feel good inside then get it there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Economically they are a little back and forth in the end the only card you are missing out on in that pile is thoughtseize the fetches are going to drop after standard and eventually after maybe a year after rotation start to go back up. Thoughtseize has already been out of rotation so it has a pretty stable price and could potentially go up. So, economically I think they will come out to be the same after rotation for a while and its only 8 fetches and you can get them later when they drop. If you feel like you will play these in the near future I would probably hold off. However if you are not super worried about losing maybe 30 bucks over a couple years consider the misty if you really think you will love it.

If you're looking to eventually build a modern deck like you say, then keeping the playsets of fetches you already have seems like a better choice to me. Those fetches get used in most Modern grixis decks, so you'd be ahead of the game keeping them when it comes time for you to build a modern deck.

Alright thank you all for the opinions. Agree that keeping them for modern is the best idea.

Id do that deal. Want my misty? ;) lol. Nut in all seriousness its a very bad deal for you. The KTK Fetches can be expected to rise steadily until they get another reprint (my guess = 4 years).
