Is this commander even viable as a vampire tribal? Many circles I find myself in have competitive standard and modern players. I don't think they are playing CEDH, but it can get sweaty. Regardless, I would love to optimize it's efficiency. Any and all suggestions are more than welcome!!! Tribal Vampires Help Wanted

Yes, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose is a viable vampire tribal commander. If you play around the whole lifegain ability of his, he can become very strong, especially with great value vampires. However, compared to the other vampire commanders like Olivia, Crimson Bride, Strefan, Maurer Progenitor, and (god help) Edgar Markov is that Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose lacks the ability to either generate vampire tokens or cheat vampires on the battlefield for cheap.

While it is completely personal preference on what you play, and if you have fun with the deck, that is 100% paramount to using a commander for power.

If you do find yourself in a more competitive scene, you might want to look more at what your commander is good at (which is lifegain) and hone in on that. However, if you are looking for a vampire tribal commander that excels in their role, then here are two.

Strefan, Maurer Progenitor has a fantastic and powerful precon that is easily upgradeable. Rakdos is a great color combo that excels with vampires and removal and just being very mean.

But if you are willing to drop a small fortune, Edgar Markov is most definitely the uncontested King of vampire tribal with his Eminence ability, like that of Ur-Dragon, being completely and utterly busted and is a huge vampire engine without even casting him.
