Darrin, The Missing Blade

I would say, per lore, Darrin has achieved this title throughout the whole of the multiverse as an assassin who will routinely murder a subject, then planeswalk away hence giving himself the name "The Missing Blade". He generally stays on a plane only long enough to hunt down those he deems worthy enough to die by his hand.

What the metrics are for "worthiness", only he knows.

I would have him native to Ravnica, where he had joined and been raised within the Dimir Syndicate since childhood. However, he never took a keen interest in sabotage, extortion and deceit. Why extract information and manipulate your surroundings when you could just murder those you disagree with? And why pay others to do it for you when you could just do it yourself?

  • "A blade knows no difference to the hand which wields it. Rich or poor, vindictive or love. Skilled or novice. A blade will spill the same blood."

He took his philosophy to the Cult of Rakdos where he found a new family and home, but retained the skills and knowledge of the Dimir.

LaZav sent numerous assassins after Darrin, but his skill and prowess in two deadly guilds made him nearly untouchable. That was, until one fateful day when LaZav learned of Darrin's most closely guarded secret: his sister.

After contacting him in secrecy for his help, Darrin rushed to her aid. There he found her bloodied and dying. Attempting to help, he felt a sharp, warm current pass over his abdomen. In her hand, a blade. She apologized profusely, crying out that she had to or they'd have killed her.

But it mattered not. She died in his arms from bloodloss, and he laid dying next to her.

As the world went black, he awoke to the rattlings of a marketplace. Hooves clapped across cobblestone. The aroma of fresh meat and sauteed vegetables filled the air. Men in strange suits of armor clanged across the pathways. Everyone spoke in a different language, almost whimsical in nature. Soldiers, more prestigious than those of Ravnica, bore colors and sigels of empires not of their own. Towering castle walls and embankments kept the wilds out. For Darrin awoke in Eldraine.

Rumor has it, he kept the blade his sister attempted to assassinate him with. For on that day, she was successful. Darrin did in fact die.

and a monster was born.

Honestly, sometimes the lore just writes itself.

Ironically, "The Missing Blade" happens to also now be a double entendre. Not only does he vanish with all evidence, hence "The Missing Blade", but on Ravnica the blade his sister used literally went missing as well.

I'd say that's quite poetic.
