Windows XP: the 20th Anniversary

This year is the 20th anniversary of Windows XP, the eighth incarnation of Microsoft’s famous operating system (after Windows 1.0, 2.0., 3.0, 95, 98, 2000 and ME). XP was a significant change compared to previous versions of Windows, with both greatly enhanced graphics and also a smoother and more user-friendly interface that was less prone to crashing than were previous versions.

I began high school in the same year that Windows XP was released, so I have fond memories of it from that time of my life; I had always had an interest in computers, but, at that time, my interest was increasing, so I was beginning to better understand how computers functioned and also was not as prone to randomly altering settings that could potentially damage their systems. I remember that most users were very pleased with the increased functionality of the system, but some users found the new vibrant color scheme to be too childish and glaring, but it was easy to change that scheme.

If I recall correctly, Windows XP was the first version of Windows to be completely independent of DOS and also the first version that had strong support for internet connectivity, because prior versions had little, if any, network support, since the internet was still in its infancy at the time that previous versions of Windows were popular.

Obviously, Windows XP is now obsolete, but it had an excellent run as an operating system, and I still remember it, fondly. What does everyone else say about this? How do you feel about this year being the 20th anniversary of Windows XP?
