Can someone help resolve a Google Chromebook issue I am having?

Randomly, my Acer Chromebook lost that function where it shows you that words are misspelled. You know, those red squiggle lines that appear beneath them? That vanished.

Furthermore, when I right-click on any word, regardless of it being spelled correctly or incorrectly, the "suggestion" of Emoji appears. When this happens, if I click on it, it "suggests" an emoji to be replaced by the word - again, correct or incorrect spelling.

Now, I know that you can right-click in a text field and move the cursor down to "Spell Check" where you have the option of "Use basic spell check" or "Use enhanced spell check".

The system only allows one option to be selected at a time, and yet for some confounded reason, neither work. Both functionally do absolutely nothing. Zero. Squat. Nada.

Really pissing me off and I'm about to throw this hunk of garbage away. Now I see why literally everybody I have ever spoken to says Chromebooks are shit.

So, does anybody have advice? How do you "restore" the spell check feature? This was a BRAND NEW Chromebook. It's like, maybe 90 days old, and it just vanished.

  • And yes, it is on its current update.

Thanks.

To clarify, Youtune and Google DO have "solutions", however their solutions are outdated. Even the ones from just a few months ago do not work. The fields they reference are gone, their settings they reference are gone, the options they reference are gone.

All of it is gone.

Seriously, really REALLY getting to me.

  • The --- ONLY --- text field I am able to find that shows those red squiggles is on Google's website search bar itself. NOWHERE ELSE ON ANY WEBPAGE ANYWHERE

And even then, the ONLY suggestion that appears is fucking "Emoji"?!?!?!!?

Wow, that sucks. I wish I was more technically savvy to help (used to be back in like windows 95-Vista XD) but it does kind of sound strange... I'm wondering could it be Spyware/Virus related?
