FNM Results —April 29, 2016

Was able to test on the deck even though I am still missing a few cards. Cards missing were mostly sideboard because I forgot to get me Center Souls and still don't have Declaration of stone yet. In those spots sat a few burn cards to help control the board (rending volley, roast). Decided I like rending volley enough to stay in side and removed the extra Chasms that were in side to make room for them because of how much white my local plays white and/or blue. From the main board I was missing 2 copies of Always watching and substituted them with Goblin Freerunner.

Well what you were likely waiting for, the results:

Round 1: vs RG CoCo - 2/0

Game 1 and 2 got the right balance of inflate to creature and had him killed by turn 5-6 both games.

Round 2: vs WU Human Control - 0/2

Game 1: Mana screw

Game 2: somewhat close game but couldn't get around the amount of control opponent was using (needed my center souls I forgot to bring).

Round 3: vs BG elves - 2/1

game 1: trample spells and Chasm gave me victory

game 2: misplay by me forgetting to cast chasm to get lethal

game 3: opponent used coco and hit 0 cards... was likely to win that one even if they hit their best options because they drew a slow hand.

Round 4: RU Thing Burn control - 2/0 (best way to describe the deck was thing in ice with lots of burn spells paired with Jayce and darkdwellers)

Game 1: stomped him fairly quick because he doesn't main his board sweepers and didn't manage to draw his faster burn options. (10-15 min)

Game 2: Sidedeck for the win because it allowed me to kill off all his Jaces and Thing in Ice cards as they hit the board. This was however a very slow and long game... I didn't draw a creature for 7 turns (first creature I drew was Zada...) and banked on the fact I drew half of what I sided in (Roast, Rending Volley, Warping Wail). The amount of removal I drew was kinda silly but I managed to struggle my way to victory through the use of Needle Spire getting him low whenever he tapped out. This game took so long that it went to turns and manage to finish him off because he didn't get another 3+damage burn card.

Thoughts of how the deck runs: Well I like how it runs overall. I need to make some tweaks to the deck and test more. I liked the idea of putting Odric into the deck in place of Zada, because he will spread creature abilities and I feel it will be more profitable then trying to spread the inflate spells. Going to still try and get more Always Watching for the deck because they do a lot offensively and defensively for the deck. Thinking of making room for the Goblin Freerunner because it is a warrior for sake of pairing with Arrashin foremost and comes with menace to give another keyword to spread with Odric. Might move Chasm to sidedeck because it was more useful vs decks that go token wide or CoCo, often when in hand wanted it to be another inflate spell. Might bring in Brute Strength because its 2 mana for +3/+1 and more importantly trample. Lastly I want to try and get an anti-enchantment spell for the sidedeck because of how many silkwraps/stasis snares I saw.

Well this has been the results with my thoughts on it so far. Will update tweaks when I have decided how I really want them to be done later. Feel free to leave a comment if you have questions or suggestions.

Ya, it was probably a good idea to take out the wolf, you can definetly curve into double white rather than double red on turn two seeing that your trying to play dragon hunter on turn one

Hey man, I like the deck. I reckon you should use the new Odric aswell, cause you could then be giving double strike to all of your creatures just from one being on the field who has it :)

Odric does seem like he could be useful. Decided to test Zada in deck first. If Zada feels lacking might go with Odric then. Going to give the deck its first test run for FNM this week if possible.

I like the idea!!! With the pumps you can effectively deal with Humans and Bant...as long as it is before or after their trickery! However, how do you deal with Languish? I don't see anyway of resetting the board.

Simple answer to languish... You don't. Hmm... I may want to consider Warping Wail for side deck and include a few more colorless mana sources to play it. Best I can think of to counter play languish outside of trying to hold inflate spells defensively. Maybe bringing the focus spell from side to main to help with that, because if always watching is in play you can save most creatures with the spell.

that isn't a bad choice
