April Update Log —April 7, 2021

  • Added Toski, Bearer of Secrets, cutting Slate of Ancestry. Just testing Toski out for now. I'm interested to see how sticky he is on the field, how often he's able to sneak a hit in during the early game, and how often I can actually swing and draw cards with my Sand Warrior tokens. By comparison, Slate is slow, expensive and clunky, but it was dependable.

  • Added back in Shivan Harvest, cutting Evolutionary Leap. Leap is a very good card and is able to fill my hand with all of my powerful game-changing creatures, but I have other cards that can do that. Harvest is my only land destruction, and while I try to play nice and avoid it, some lands simply need blowing up. Looking at you Glacial Chasm.

  • Added Alpine Meadow, Arctic Treeline, and Highland Forest, cutting 2 basic Forests and 1 Snow-Covered Forest. Duels with basic land types will always find a home in this deck, especially since most of my ramp can find non-basic Forests and Perilous Forays can spit them all into play. With these, now my Into The North has unlocked its full potential.

  • Added Reshape The Earth, cutting Boundless Realms. Realms was an awkward card - ramping into it with Sol Ring or Temple Of The False God wasn't worth it, and I was always pressured to play it later and later. Reshape doesn't have this issue, though it is a lot more expensive and has less ramp potential. All things considered, Reshape wouldn't be much better than Realms... if Field Of The Dead didn't exist. But Field does exist, and now not only does this card tutor every best utility land into play (including Gaea's Cradle) it also puts 20 power on the board. Bam!
