Hello!

Below are the team assignments for the next draft debate, which will commence late Saturday night (U.S. Pacific time). The format will be 3x DGM (because only the jankiest of draft formats will do). If you see your name below, get in touch with your team leader so that the proper arrangements can be made.

You can still sign up to be a drafter or observer, though, and if you're still on the fence, not to fear, you can join any time while the draft is in progress.

If you want to join up right now, post in the comments. Write your username and whether you want to be a DRAFTER (actually participate as one of the group's members), or an OBSERVER (and not participate, but have omniscient access to all the picks).

Meanwhile, here are your group assignments!

Do people get notice if you add them to a decklist? If not, that would be a bit awkward for sharing

Anyway, I hope my people have access to my decklist already, please take a look there and decide on a name :)

@Leafs_suck- That's so tempting, I may just have to...

@apt142- All you missed was the initial sign up. You can still participate; just state whether you'd like to be an observer or a drafter, and KrazyCaley will take care of you.

Kravian - Drafter please!

June 21, 2013 4:34 p.m.

shuflw says... #16

what's the point of drafting triple dgm? i know this is just a fun way for people to draft for free, argue over picks and waste time at work, but i thought a secondary purpose was to actually help newer players learn how to draft. wizards created the block with the limited format in mind, to be drafted the way they designed it. while arguing about overall power levels here will still be useful, this won't help the average person if they're thinking about trying to go to their next lgs draft. as evidenced by the last draft awkwardness, "hitting the heavy bag" just turns it into a jumble of nothing relevant. you're missing out on the harder to find synergies of the actual block, which would be helpful for newer players to be exposed to. why draft triple dgm, why not go for gatecrash-champion's of kamigawa-new phyrexia?

June 21, 2013 4:50 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #17

@chasedwings - You've been added to Group 7. Get in touch with Goody.

@Kravian - You've been added to Group 6. Get in touch with Darkness1835. Sorry about missing you earlier, not sure how that happened.

@KorSplicer - Like it says in the article, it's not too late to sign up! You still can, just let me know whether you want to draft or observe. And if you read this after the draft starts, even THEN it's not too late to sign up. Just let me know how you'd like to participate!

@shuflw - I can understand the frustration at my seeming hatred of the actual normal drafting format. The reason for triple DGM (or the backwards draft from last time) rather than a totally random set (which I occasionally like to do in DDD) is that it provides at least SOME helpful information to really new drafters without becoming a predictable "well, in DGM-GTC-RTR, the really GOOD strategies do..." ramble that doesn't particularly help new players understand the why's and how's of good drafting for themselves. That's what I'm really trying to avoid. On the one hand, this format is disadvantageous because people are unlikely to run into these formats, but on the other hand, it's advantageous because (I think) it's better at teaching the fundamentals because it forces everyone to consider things in the abstract and go to drafting fundamentals. Just my two cents. For the next one I anticipate that we'll go nice and easy with just a triple M14 or something.

June 21, 2013 5:28 p.m.

Nicely done, KrazyCaley. I'm looking at the members of my team and thinking, "We're stacked!" Then I look at the next few teams and realize, "Crap, so are they." I'd be happy with any one of these groups... except seat 6... seat 6 is like staring intently at Joseph's techno dream coat while on shrums.

Not that I've ever done shrums...

@shuflw. I agree. A block draft would be better for new drafters. At the same time, this draft is also supposed to be something new and different than what you get at your LGS. Not everyone is a new drafter.

June 21, 2013 5:31 p.m.

TridenT says... #19

If I hadn't edited my name a few weeks back I could be Team PlainName. We're devoid (thus far of crazy shaders, colors that are invisible on one or the other half of TappedOut, or Wingdings. So there's that.

It might be worth mentioning at this point that a good point of contact for the drafters is their team's leader's decklist - I don't know about my fellow leads but I have my team's deck in place and ready to be clicked by them!

June 21, 2013 7:26 p.m.

June 22, 2013 10 a.m.

I'd like to be an observer. :)

June 22, 2013 10:13 a.m.

shuflw says... #36

Caley,

you make good points, and now that i think about it i guess i'm arguing apples to oranges. there's drafting sets and blocks that wizards has designed, and then there is drafting sets of cards that weren't necessarily designed and playtested (by wotc at least) with specific limited strategies in mind (like personal cubes, pick-a-pack drafts, and the last ddd).

while i'd agree that some sets or blocks fall flatter (my opinion is that triple gatecrash is extremely linear and boring), i'd say that this ravnica block has been pretty interesting and diverse to draft so far. i haven't drafted it as much as i'd like to, so it's also possible that the "correct" draft strategies have been figured out already and you're right that people are bored and know to draft xyz to win.

so to end my post/essay, i'd just like to say thanks again for running these. i appreciate the work that goes into them, and now i better understand your reasoning. "hitting the heavy bag" didn't quite do it for me :)

also, because i think core sets are the most boring for limited, i'd like to offer my cube for the next ddd. it's not the strongest or most polished, but it's been fun to draft. you could also use one of wizards' cube lists as well. i'm not sure if cube drafting fits entirely into the ddd realm, or if it's something someone could write future articles about. just an idea. tappedout.net/mtg-cube-drafts/cws-cube/

June 22, 2013 10:36 a.m.

sewellius says... #37

Hi KrazyCaley,

I didn't see myself listed with a team, Could you tell me which one I am on?

June 22, 2013 12:34 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #38

@sewellius Crap, I think I accidentally deleted you while shuffling things around. You're on Leafs_suck's team; get in touch with him.

@shuflw - I would LOVE to do a cube draft, but to make this format work, we need to buy, in advance, a bunch of packs from MTGO, which basically limits us to drafting things for which booster packs exist in MTGO. Even their cube can't be drafted over 45 days, alas. Bug them for "use your own cube" support!

June 22, 2013 8:21 p.m.

KrazyCaley, I, Sweet-Nightmare, would like to be an observer, please? :)

June 22, 2013 8:30 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #40

It will be done in 5 minutes. Check that URL then.

June 22, 2013 8:32 p.m.

Yay, thanks. :) I had just realized I hadn't linked my name; I'm normally a better reader, I promise.

June 22, 2013 8:39 p.m.

IAmKingTony says... #42

Wait, triple DGM? :/ this is somehow even worse than the reverse thing you guys did last time. I'll still do it because I volunteered but this sucks a LOT of the fun out of it.

June 23, 2013 9:07 a.m.

IAmKingTony says... #43

Every deck is going to have like 10 cluestones and nothing to spend the mana on.

June 23, 2013 9:13 a.m.

Archos7 says... #44

I don't think that triple DGM sucks at all. It's strange, indeed, but I find it more challenging, and that's where the fun lies :) And everyone will be under the same restrictions, anyway.

When I played a triple DGM draft with some friends, it went pretty well. It surely was a little weird, but that didn't spoiled the fun

June 23, 2013 9:23 a.m.

Yeah it sounds worse than it is tony, it's actually more normal than you'd think.

June 23, 2013 9:39 a.m.

Wike900 says... #46

Are we going to be autodrafting the last few picks of the pack?

It would suck to have to wait too long for relatively obvious picks. Especially last pick.

June 23, 2013 12:45 p.m.

Just got back from vacation and saw this.

I'd like to sign up as a drafter - username potatoedoughnut

July 25, 2013 6:54 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #53

@Prevailed - Everyone who joined after the draft started does not appear on this list, alas. Too much else going on for me to go back and fix it.
