Hi guys. What happens when I play Opalescence and Psychic Vortex, and then equip Assault Suit on Psychic Vortex?

Will opponents be prevented from sacrificing Psychic Vortex even if they choose not to pay the cumulative cost?

Thanks guys

I am a huge fan of this film, the animation and the amazing music that makes up the soundtrack. I have even made a deck inspired by Veteran of the Psychic Wars by Blue Oyster Cult that uses Psychic Vortex and Words of War to win games. Which is literally a "Psychic War". You can see it here: Veteran Of The Psychic Wars.

So, thank you for posting this anniversary thread!

There actually is a central theme and story to Heavy Metal. It even comes full circle over the course of the various vignettes.

Spoiler Alert

After the opening sequence we are, in the first vignette, introduced to the Loc-Nar which is the "Sum of All Evils" and it begins to terrorize the little girl and show her how through the ages and in various worlds it twists and destroys all that is good. During each of the following stories you see the Loc-Nar over and over again tempt and destroy everything and then, in the Taarna sequence, a warrior women sacrifices herself to destroy the Loc-Nar. In the final scene, you discover the little girl is a reincarnation of the warrior woman who flies away as the Loc-Nar explodes.

End Spoiler

For me, the movie is all about choice and the cycle of life. This means that evil is real, omnipresent and never truly can be defeated. But your life and your deeds matter. And you can make a decision to do the right thing or let the Mob Rule. So how you live your life is what's important.

And the soundtrack is one of the best samples of rock and roll in the era at the time the film was made. Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Blue Oyster Cult, Riggs, Don Felder, Devo, Steve Nicks and more. Lot of great music.

I was a kid when I saw this at a Midnight show in the movie theater when it came out and I have seen many of the featured bands in concert.

SMELY_ZAJKO More mill helps accelerate the deck and gives you more lines of play sooner, but it definitely can operate without it. If the mill doesn't sit well with you, use those as more flex slots to add in your cards you like!

Dawn of the Dead, Mirror March, and Psychic Vortex are all absolutely usable in this deck. My playgroup generally plays pretty quick decks, so the higher CMC of those cards pushed me away from them. I would give those cards a try against your play group and then adjust to match the speed of the games they play.

Usually Obeka, Brute Chronologist isn't considered a threat unless you have combo pieces on the board, so you will generally get the chance to tap her quite a bit. This is especially true the more you use her ability to help our your opponents; they may then actually want you to have her in play. Make sure they know you are open to making deals and helping them out with her ability, and you should have no problem! None the less, something I found that helps with strategizing while playing is to go about my turns assuming I won't be able to use Obeka's ability for myself unless I have protection of some sort readily available. It is because of that I would be careful with Psychic Vortex; play it assuming you will have to discarding your hand and sac a land each turn and know you won't have Obeka available as a political piece as long as it is in play. If you are okay with that, absolutely run it! I chose to stay away from it because of this though.

Dreadbore or Volcanic Offering are definitely good choices for removal. You can either swap out any of the cards under the Removal category with them or if you want them as additional removal, replace anything in the Clone category with them. Talk to and make sure the land destruction in Volcanic Offering is cool with your play group though; land destruction is usually strongly disliked and/or looked down upon, but each play group is different. Talk to them, and you can't go wrong!

DriftingEpyon Thanks, you are awesome! Is the reanimate effect really so rapid that more mill is needed? What do you think about Dawn of the Dead, Mirror March, Psychic Vortex, Dreadbore or Volcanic Offering? And how often are you able to tap Obeka please? I'm wondering if it's every turn (so Psychic Vortex or Dawn of the Dead makes sense) once your group knows the deck, or if it's more like a rare thing.

The second I saw Obeka I thought of Psychic Vortex! I am so excited to make an end-of-turn abuse deck!

Oh, and sorry to double-post, but Psychic Vortex looks hilarious in this deck. Maybe not the most powerful addition, but it seems like it actually might go well with the deck.

Basically just "endstep". do a gatherer search for "endstep" in and see what you can find. Here are a few other good ones.

Elemental Mastery

Flameshadow Conjuring

Impromptu Raid

Killer Instinct

Planeswalker's Mischief

Psychic Vortex

Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded

Sneak Attack

Underworld Breach

And that's just Enchantments I searched.

Hello!

First and foremost, huge fan of this build. I jumped on here for some help because my friend has a Torbran, thane of redfell that was kicking my ass and I needed to develop something to go up against it and this build was it. Thank you! I am working on my own take on this build.

What are your Thoughts on a Dream Halls and Psychic Vortex combo? haven’t had to much gameplay with it, but it seems to sync up pretty nice.

Breathstealer's Crypt is another card I ran into that seems like it would sync up nicely after a Mindslicer Cyclonic Rift combo.
