I've finally put this deck together IRL and I've found that early ramp is incredibly important for getting the partner tag team of Pir/Toothy online as quickly as possible. Turn 4 Toothy is just too slow in my meta. Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and turn one mana dorks get Toothy down on turn 2-3 which makes all the difference.
I've found that this deck can "turn the corner" very quickly in the game if Toothy sticks and accumulates a few counters. Cheap draw like Brainstorm is one of the best ways to accomplish this. I'm considering adding Gitaxian Probe as well as it can be cast the turn Toothy comes down for 0 mana and get 2 counters on him right away w/ Pir on the field. The counter bonus from Pir can get out of hand really fast with cards like Prime Speaker Zegana and Garruk, Primal Hunter.
I'm still working on the optimal balance of utility vs threats. So far I think I need to add a bit more interaction and utility. The deck can build some crazy board states but has difficulty dealing with opposing threats outside of a few removal spells and some bounce.
Overall I'm very pleased with these commanders and enjoy the crazy +1/+1 shenanigans.
