Nice. Anytime someone makes mono-U work in my book is a +1. And while I know you have Thassa's Oracle in the maybeboard, I would consider adding it as an alt win condition. At least in Standard, it is super consistent.

The new Thassa, Deep-Dwelling may be a good fit, as an indestructible closet.

You heathen. Thassa is Queen of the pantheon. Shirk your false god, and become beloved by the sea.

pistolpeteiii, the card draw wasn't my biggest concern, as this deck already has that being it's largest strength, but stupid me forgot about the minor ramping is all haha, right into Gales.

It's funny, fireyoshiqc, I've gone back and forth about Radical Idea and Omen of the Sea a hundred times, swapping one for the other. The only argument for Radical Idea is the extra instant/sorcery for The Magic Mirror . However, the Omen does provide that devotion, especially because I don't play Magic Mirror every game (not because the mana cost is too difficult, but because it gets self-milled often).

That is the best argument I've heard for Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner so far: a T4 Cavalier. Cavalier is already wildly consistent and game changing, and I often get multiple copies out in a game. A T4 one will just make things more efficient. How many copies would you advise? I'm going to shoot for one now.

I will try out Dungeon Geists , but most likely add it to the sideboard. My T4 slot is already pretty full, especially since Gadwick makes my curve always consistent starting from T3. Same thing with Callaphe, Beloved of the Sea . I know she's not main board material (I tried her myself), but probably will work as a 1-of instead of Mission Briefing.

I hate playing against this deck so much, I usually just quit on Arena when I see it.

That said I love it. +1. I'mma build it.

This is a standard deck; why is it labeled pioneer?

January 15, 2020 9:39 p.m.

Not even kidding. Tallied my own numbers on this from 30 standard matches.

  • 33% of all my matches lead with Scorch Spitter
  • 40% of my matches play Ajani’s Pridemate in the first 3 turns
  • 17% of my matches play Risen Reef in the first 3 turns

I love MTG (Arena, specifically), but I’m so glad I decided a year ago that I’ll never spend another cent on this game, outside pre-releases. I could enjoy this game significantly more if, for NINETY-PERCENT of matches, didn’t cycle between three decks.

pistolpeteiii: Thanks! It's funny; my current standard deck on Arena is also Mono-U, and it is completely different. It utilizes a lot of tempo-control, like Gadwick, the Wizened , Brazen Borrower , and Unsummon , to push win cons like Brineborn Cutthroat . Didn't even put 2-and-2 together that Wavebreak Hippocamp is far more suited to that completely different Mono-U deck.

I will look into your suggestions and see how it goes. The other advice I received was good, but I think was caught up in not distinguishing the two decks I just outlined like me. For example, I had Mu Yanling, Sky Dancer included but opted it out, etc.

Now that I made the distinction I'm going to push this to a better, more clean cut direction.

ork_mcgork: I'm in the same boat. Actually prefer this. When it's long and drawn out, I usually just ask someone for the highlights, until I eventually get an idea. The story spotlight cards don't do enough.

But I definitely understand why people are upset about this, especially with how inconsistent they are. They range from tiny things like this, to entire novels.

jroyhood: Thanks! I didn't take it face value (for example, the Brazen Borrower has worked so well for me I couldn't take out 2). But, I'm going to heavily playtest this new version, having included a lot of your advice.

Thoughts on having Thassa, Deep-Dwelling be included at all? Her ability plays well very well with Cavalier of Gales , Syr Elenora, the Discerning , & Thassa's Oracle , but other than that, she might not be the perfect inclusion. Of course, however, I made this deck because I'm a Thassa fanboy..lol.
