Dorotheus 5-Color Deckromancer

Hello, I am Dorotheus [Dor-oh-thee-is], or Doro for short. I've always been into card games, and have a rich history in game design experiences. I started playing Magic in 9th Edition, but it took a while to get into a stronger understanding of the game. I'd say that when Return to Ravnica came out was my first real competitive start in the game. The internet has since EXPLODED with MTG and really allowed it to take on new heights, it's made trading, playing, and understanding the game easier and more tangible.

I am a 5-color mage, Johnny and a Combo player above all. I pride through interactions, and ways to chain cards into others. I am more about having the deck built and playing it, more than I am with winning with it. But like anyone else, I do want to win. My understanding of modern and EDH are exceptionally strong, and if there are decks I haven't seen, I want to see them and understand them.

I brew a lot and often, but I do not get to play many of my brews and I look for others to adopt my modern lists if I think the deck is worthy enough.

Thanks! Your input on Mono Red Hollow One (Avg. CMC .517) really helped me to push this deck to the next level.

Basically. Here's my control deck right now, I still need 2 more Snapcasters but Merfolk Trickster is an ok temporary substitute for now: Belafonte, Life Aquatic [Blue Phyrexia], and my goal was Temur Ice Command so take what you will from those to apply to a UG control build, and just focus more on value and less on simple protection spells, and Lumbering Falls over Treetop Village maybe? more for manafixing and it can't be simply removed as a creature. Your deck can easily use Noxious Revival too, it's not a must, but a consideration.

Phyrexian mana cards like Mutagenic Growth and Apostle's Blessing work better for your plans than say Remand and Cryptic Command if you're trying to be the Tempo/combo deck that UR decks usually are. Otherwise I'd say shift over more to control and use Eternal Witness keeping Commands and dropping Birds of Paradise, either way Heroic Intervention is very subpar to your gameplans, where more single target protection spells or countermagic would work better. I wouldn't play Karn in a fast deck, but in the control/midrange he seems fine.

Which plan were you aiming more for?

As neat or as fun as Skred is.... it's not safe by any means of the word or the context.

Personally, I think if people want Skred to stay relevant it's better off being a UR deck with Snapcaster Mage and really focus on the control aspects of it, but overall most would then say just play Jeskai Control or UW Control and that Path to Exile is a safer and stronger card than Skred or Dismember in a vacuum.

I love my Grisel Cannon, ENRAGED! deck. Been playing it for a long time, but it's way way over $400 anymore, so many price spikes. I do have a few foils in mine, and tappedout lists it at like $1200.

But it's my baby and I'll keep playing it and updating it with each set.

HOWEVER, Spirit Soul Bomb is a list I invented after streamer Brewspythemagicguy started playing an Esper Goryos list using Iname, and I decided to make it a full combo deck instead of a control style list, and Torgaar, Famine Incarnate from Dominaria sealed the deal on it, with Goryo's Vengeance being the most expensive card in the list, for now.

From what I'm told Ghalta and Baral are the best Brawl decks right now so, I mean.... nothing wrong with monocolored it would seem.

you need a very specific manabase for Nimbus Maze, and at that point you're looking at, at least Flooded Strand and Hallowed Fountains minimum to make sure you can have Maze active, but it leaves yourself open to it being "shut off" also. It's pretty good for Eldrazi decks with UW however.
