Dorotheus Deckspert

[Facebook] [Twitter] [Nintendo Miiverse]

I first owned some cards in 2003, but the game didn't make any sense to me at the time and I was waay to deep into YuGiOh!, Gundam, and Pokemon. I started buying cards back in 2005 because all my friends were playing, but I just held on to them since soon after everyone stopped. In 2007 I picked it back up and in 2009 I actually played with more than 5 people and began to understand advanced mechanics. The internet has EXPLODED with MTG and really allowed it to take on new heights, it's made trading, playing, and understanding the game easier and more tangible.

I am a Johnny and a Combo player above all. I pride through interactions, and ways to chain cards into others. I am more about having the deck built and playing it, more than I am with winning with it. HOWEVER, if I can happen to make a deck that does what I want it to do and be strong enough to go against other strong decks, and players that can actually adapt to different rogue strategies, I am quite pleased with that as well. I adapt very well to other rogue strategies as well, I think out my plays the best I can, and I understand what decks are strong and how their interactions work in modern. If there are decks I haven't seen, I want to see them and understand them.

Aether Vial is in there, never moved. It's too integral to the manabase.

@Sumar27, the plan is using Drogskol Captain and Rattlechains to give hexproof which denies spot removal, and Spell Queller (exiles anything cmc 4 or less, basically countermagic) and Selfless Spirit deal with typical boardwipes. And Mausoleum Wanderer is a bigger badder buffer version of Judge's Familiar/Cursecatcher.

Of these I'd probably play a Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist hybrid pillowfort/voltron deck which would probably end up using an Enchantress shell to facilitate both ideas.

I've seen a lot of Athreos, God of Passage and The Scarab God decks recently being Vampire and Zombie tribal respectively.

Path of Ancestry is basically another command tower and you have 19 humans so you at least get that. My one deck has 2 generals and Path, and only like 5 creatures in the deck get any of their combined 4 typings matched. You could always play Conspiracy to spite Wotc hahaha

Aside from 3 drops that elves typically can or do run, Beastmaster Ascension and Nissa, Voice of Zendikar are the best 3 drop hits that grow your board while just being decent value plays. Jagged-Scar Archers is reasonable but the downside is obvious, and my friend playing Elves is pretty dead set on Mul Daya Channelers in this slot for BBE. Right now I don't know tho.

Vengeful Firebrand (maybe maybe not), Obsidian Battle-Axe (definitely), Cathars' Crusade (oh boy), and Path of Ancestry (definitely) are the only other things I could think of that you could benefit from, maybe there are other cards with ferocious or formiddible that you could run in these colors. Otherwise I think you got'em all.

Auriok Champion is probably a better Soul Warden just for it's protections, like humans playing 2 drops isn't a big deal, but 4 Norin the Wary is probably just too many. Vial decks typically only have room for 4 other noncreature spells, and I'm not entirely sold on Purphoros, but I understand it. But you also have a decent chunk of Non-humans spells too, even if you're not running Unclaimed Territory, which definitely is going to feel clunky.

I think an aristocrat build of Humans is absolutely viable tho, and I think you can keep working on it :)
I hope this might give some ideas as well, also a non-typical human deck: High Priest Humans.

As any good deck builder would.

"Watanabe Kenji" is who built this list not Saffron Olive, it's important to have correct citations.

mostly defunct, I haven't pick the deck back up in a year or so, but it might give you ideas of what you should be running for modern.

I'd strongly recommend Retreat to Emeria, turns land drops into Ally/Rally triggers, and replace Fortified Village probably a Plains? just with a basic just in case you ever are forced to get a one.

I have a 5 color Ally/Not Ally deck Rebuke of the Maelstrom maybe there's something in that that might give you ideas.

started as a Fox Tribal deck but only 7 out of the 23 mono-white capable foxes are even left, but I've always had Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant as the general.
I'm ok with where the deck is at right now, I could upgrade it more but eh.

I feel like Apostle's Blessing can also be useful for grindy match ups with spot-removal decks, while also giving a potential edge if you need it against Affinity and Go-wide/Pyromancer decks, over Spellheart Chimera.

I know these lists are super tight, but the synergy of Thing in the Ice  Flip and Spellskite is a very nuanced but amazing and have yet to see it in too many lists. I'd also rather have two of the Peek be Sleight of Hand; getting information is great but having a stronger selection of cards in your deck is equally important.

Sorry to inform you that Exhume, Reanimate, and Entomb are not modern legal cards. They are legacy legal however. I'd recommend looking at other Reanimator lists if you're trying to run this in competitive play, if you don't care about the format you can always change the tag to "Casual" and there is a "casual" tag for the hubs as well, if you would like to keep the deck marked as Legacy or Vintage.

triggered! The plural for Pokemon is Pokemon.

I'd recommend putting a Sensei's Divining Top in here somewhere, it will always make Aid from the Cowl into at least a cantrip. Or use the Top Tech method to get one of the top 3 cards into play.

Yea and I used to told the same thing about Death's Shadow, then they took over Modern...
that argument holds no water to me.
Spark Elemental is perfectly acceptable in budget, which is what ArchonBlue's forum post mentioned. And the only reason people don't play Thunderous Wrath is because they aren't trying.
