Xynarth says... #1

Hey there, I'm having a little trouble figuring out what to cut in my Muldrotha deck. If you have a minute, I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks in advance ;)

suarkdivad: I don't think Lifeline works that way, especially since it does specify YOUR graveyard. For your opponents to take advantage of the trigger there should be written "of that player's graveyard" or something like this, shouldn't there? That's at least to my understanding of the rules. Still it might be well substituted by either Reveillark or Karmic Guide . I'm very hesitant on cutting Shadows of the Past because it is one of the few cards in here that grant you card advantage. I will look for another targets to cut and if I find something I'll make sure to put Reveillark and Karmic Guide in. Thanks for the suggestion!

Flx35: Yeah, Felidar Sovereign is a great win condition. I would add it to a list that runs more lifegain though. In here it seems a little unreliable.

suarkdivad: Well, actually I haven't thought of that combo yet. Thanks for pointing it out! I will try to find a spot so I can squeeze it in. Right now though, I'm really unsure on what to cut.

Sorry for the delay guys! Real life kept me busy unfortunately.

werewolf1101: No, they aren't. Teysa Karlov cares only for dying-triggers. Most of the creatures you mentioned don't even have triggers but activated abilities. They are in here to help your creatures dying.

Miscalcul8edRisk: Well, I might give him a chance and try him out in a few games, but to be honest, Massacre Wurm is very dependent on your opponent's board state and is no guaranteed wipe. I can immagine that it's a big play in certain situations but I'm not sure if it really justifies its inclusion. I'll try and then we'll see.

Apollo_Paladin, Fallerup: Yeah, she is pretty punishing, but as said, she is also very expensive and therefore too slow. I might consider her in a less competitve environment.

Thanks for the comments!

Miscalcul8edRisk: Yeah it's a devestating trigger for sure. Still with six mana Massacre Wurm is pretty mana-intensive and I feel like it would slow down the deck too much. Deathrender is a good card as well but I think it would fit into a less 'competitive' deck better since as you said, there should be more value-creatures in the deck as well.

Xynarth: Genesis Chamber might actually be a very good token generator. I'm a little bit worried about its downside but I'm definitely willing to try it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

BX223Hunter: Yeash, it might be good but since I already have a lot of answers in here and he is very mana-intensive, I'm not sure if it is worth to put him in here.

werewolf1101: Well, I think you should focus on a certain strategy in any build with Teysa Karlov . If you want death triggers focus on that, gaining a bunch of tokens should be a nice byproduct in a list like that but it should not be it's main focus. Same goes for token, life gain, combo etc. Focus on one strategy and take other synergies as a nice byproduct. That's why I took out the lifegain package. It was a nice little win condition with Aetherflux Reservoir but it took away from the overall synergy. So, focus on your main strategy. And as it changes so should your cards. Yes, I will look further on the Ravnica Allegiance cards but I think I have picked out the best already. I think this list is pretty synergistic and strong even though it takes some more fine-tuning. Anyway, I have my doubts that Teysa Karlov can get to the highest competitve level.

Okay, since you wrote it should be a 'lands matter' deck Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar might be interesting to you. Also consider Splendid Reclamation. I would definitely switch out Slithermuse for River Kelpie, it's just amazing card draw.

Other things I would consider taking out are Hornet Queen (for its cost) and Whip of Erebos as it sends the creatures to exile and makes them useless for Muldrotha, the Gravetide.

January 10, 2019 2:53 a.m.

skroes: I don't run it because it is too expensive. I already have Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos. Seven mana is a lot for an effect I can get from far cheaper cards.

Xynarth: Yeah, I already thought on cutting Skirsdag High Priest. He seemed underwhelming to me as well. Have you thought about the combo of Divine Visitation + Requiem Angel yet? With a sac outlet it goes infinite like Darkest Hour + Teysa, Orzhov Scion .

January 9, 2019 5:20 p.m.

Xynarth: Actually I just skipped the sacrifice part... dammit, I was already so excited about getting 5/5s all day long. I put in Yahenni, Undying Partisan. It's really hard to choose between Jar of Eyeballs and Shadows of the Past. I am also constantly thinking about Nether Traitor. Hundred cards are just not enough T_T I just want some more spots...

Maybe I should just take out the Revel in Riches-package? Although it's a very fun win condition and might help you win games in stuck situations...

Thanks for the comments guys!

Xynarth, law579: I added some of your suggestions. I also added in Quest for the Gravelord. I think it might be my new all-star. I was looking at my Varina list and when I saw it I thought it would synergize amazingly with Teysa Karlov. A double trigger if any creatures dies and a constant token re-supply seems amazing.

CaptnShady: Thanks for the suggestion but the others are right unfortunately. ALthough he is a good token producer, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet doesn't synergize too well with Teysa Karlov.

January 9, 2019 2:01 p.m.

law579, Xynarth: These are some very nice suggestions. I am actually thinking about taking out the Aetherflux Reservoir-Package for a while now. I have the impression that it'll be hard to pull off and you never get to the life levels that threathen a win against 3 opponents at once. Blood Artist and the others will do the job I guess. What do you guys think?

January 8, 2019 3:05 a.m.

Nrdman Yeah, I know. Thanks for pointing it out, I will specifiy in the description.

January 7, 2019 1:52 p.m.

Thanks for your comments!

Grageon: Thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely keep that in mind. Maybe I will switch out Commander's Sphere for it. Thanks for the suggestion!

spearitual: You're right. i was convinced the trigger said "Whenever a creature dies". Thanks for pointing it out. I'll correct the description.

JackTheDemon: Yeah, it looks pretty strong. I still have to work on ramp and the ratio between Sac Outlets and token producers. In playtesting I often end up with no mana, no sac outlet or no token producer. I guess I should add more tutors as well. I'll definitely refine this lidt further. Thanks for your comment!

Sillynx Many thanks for your comment! Yeah, the new Teysa is amazing. I wanted an Orzhov commander for ages and I love the aristocrats playstyle, so it was obvious that I'll be going to build her. I put in the best stuff I could think of in that moment. I feel this list might be a little unfocused since it runs several strategies: Tokens, Lifegain, Aristocrats, Treasures, Combo. I'll see how well it works in play testing, maybe I'll take out the Aetherflux Reservoir package at some point or reduce the token focus. We will see.

Thank you for your suggestions. At the moment I am considering Kokusho, the Evening Star, Yosei, the Morning Star and Wurmcoil Engine. Grim Haruspex and Harvester of Souls were on a earlier version of this list but since the care about nontokens I took them out again when the the deck developed a tokens focus. If I change up the strategy I'll put them in again.

Keep me posted on your list! I'll definitely take a look on it! :)

Said on Ur-dragon...

Have you thought about Sylvia Brightspear?

January 4, 2019 6:34 a.m.

Very interesting take. I've always wanted to build her and looked at different techs. I went for a human tribal deck here on tappedout but never ended up building the deck. I'll keep an eye on this list. Maybe you could keep us posted on how it performed as well.

I'm unsure how well it is able to win, just for some extra redundancy you might consider adding Gisela, Blade of Goldnight. If you like to try extra combat phases consider Aurelia, the Warleader and Scourge of the Throne. Things like Beastmaster Ascension, Triumph of the Hordes, Overwhelming Stampede and obviously Craterhoof Behemoth can provide instant wins. For ramp I would consider Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip, Somberwald Sage, Shaman of Forgotten Ways. True Conviction and Avacyn, Angel of Hope might also be considered.
