Can you stack on a morph ability?

Situation: you have a Sagu Mauler face down as a 2/2 Morph creature. You decide to morph your creature into the 6/6 trample hexproof behemoth and your opponent uses a Magma Jet targeted at Sagu mauler.

If this is being read correctly, according to this comprehensive rule on morphing.

702.36d If you have priority, you may turn a face-down permanent you control face up. This is a special action; it doesnt use the stack (see rule 115). To do this, show all players what the permanents morph cost would be if it were face up, pay that cost, then turn the permanent face up. (If the permanent wouldnt have a morph cost if it were face up, it cant be turned face up this way.) The morph effect on it ends, and it regains its normal characteristics. Any abilities relating to the permanent entering the battlefield dont trigger when its turned face up and dont have any effect, because the permanent has already entered the battlefield.

Which potential outcome plays out?

  1. Sagu Mauler regains its abilities immediately and Magma jet fizzles because of hexproof.

  2. Sagu Mauler is hit with Magma Jet before it can morph and dies from being a 2/2.

Actually neither situation is correct. The first thing to remember is that morph is two abilities. The first is a static ability that allows you to cast it for it's morph cost. The second is an ability that turns the morph face up. This ability doesn't use the stack and cannot be responded to. So in this situation Sagu Mauler becomes unmorphed then your opponent has a chance to do something but cannot target it because it has hexproof.

If they try to cast Magma Jet at a time when they have priority, and in response to them casting magma jet at your morph, you turn it face up, their spell will fizzle on resolution because the target became illegal.

If you say that you are turning it face-up, it just is done. You show them the cost, pay it, and the characteristics change. They won't even be able to announce Magma Jet targeting the Sagu Mauler because it already has hexproof before they have priority.
