Amount of life gain with lifelink

If a creature with lifelink such as Archangel of Thune attacks and a 1/1 bird creature token blocks it would the life gain be 1 because the damage to kill the bird token would only need to be 1, or would it be 3 because that is the power of Archangel of Thune ?

The Archangel of Thune deals damage equal to it's power, irrelevant of the toughness of the creature receiving the damage.
