Is Bumping Threads OK?

TappedOut forum

To be honest I wasn't entirely sure where to put this thread. Wasn't sure if it was offtopic enough for BE but if it is, move away.

But back to the question, is it alright to bump a thread that has sunk down in an attempt to get more people to see it? I can see it going both ways so I was curious what everyone else thought.

I would say it's okay to bump it once or maybe twice if it's a genuinely interesting and discussable topic. If it's not, I don't see the point in doing so.

If there's like a legitimate and good reason for it then necrobumping is ok.

OP isn't asking about necroing, but instead asking about if their thread isn't at the top of the forum anymore, can they bump it back to the top.

Mostly what Vampire said. For example, say you asked a question or asked for help but only got 1 answer before fell off the page and wanted to get more opinions on it. Obviously bumping would be better than just recreating the thread, but I can see how excessive bumping of things would be just as bad.

I'm also kinda curious because I've seen several forums where bumping is allowed but it really isn't a problem, but also ones where bumping is just out of control and screws up the threads that are actually newly created.

I would say only bump a thread if I could add to it somehow. Saying "bump" to me is just annoying. Saying thanks or responding to someone is an ok form of bumping, as is expanding on the original post by providing things like updates(in the case of deck help). This is just my opinion though.

You can't bump threads, the function doesn't actually happen in our thread pages. It does so on the front forum page, because that shows the most recent comment, but it doesn't actually happen in any of the categories where you can browse through the threads.

Yeh bumping doesn't happen In the actual forum categories. When people necrobump old threads it's different because everyone who originally posted gets a notification. If you bump a thread that no one has posted in nothing will happen.

Oh well that solves that question then lol. For some reason I thought it would cause the thread to appear on the "Latest Forum Activity" column again. Well, that's that then. Thanks for the clarification.
