I'm not sure about other platforms, but it is free on XBOX, so there is no downside to trying it. Honestly, it isn't great. It is buggy (especially now with the new update) and the decks you can make are definitely underwhelming from a competitive standpoint. However, if you are like me and have very little chance to play Magic other ways, it can be a way to get some time in. I don't think it is worth money but it can be fun as a replacement if you need it. Hope that helps some!

It's certainly frustrating that you can't get playsets of every single card in each set they release, but I enjoy it for the most part. Makes you appreciate the game more by learning what can work with the cards you have available to you. 7/10 would recommend.

I agree with EverythingIsK. It's great for developing your understanding of mechanics, but it's not like going to a LGS and buying a playset of some uncommons for a buck or two. I've enjoyed playing the story mode and learning the backstory to characters and such. Worth the time, but I'd not suggest throwing dollars at it.

I don't think it's great for understanding mechanics compared to MTGO. A lot of the shortcuts it takes are annoying or misleading; particularly, it doesn't make a clear distinction between end step, upkeep, and draw step. This makes it annoying to do things on your upkeep before you draw, among other problems.

The game also forces you to pass priority more aggressively than you would in a normal game; this isn't really a bug, it's always done this.

The tutorials for keyword abilities are alright enough as it goes I suppose.

The bugs are kind of aggravating; a handful of cards (mostly specific mythics) are borderline unplayable right now, a few other cards are more or less useful than they should be. Avacynian Missionaries  Flip sometimes exiles things permanently, for example.

I like playing it because it is effectively its own format that embraces cards that see less use outside of Limited formats, and doesn't cost me any money, but it's not great. If I were playing it "seriously" I'd find a local shop or play on MTGO.
