Where should I start?

Which events are the most lucrative (have the best return)?

What is the best cheap format to invest in?

What are the best limited events?

Thanks for any answers! (I am very familiar with paper magic and I am primarily a limited player)

Having just invested in my first Commander deck today, I'd say it's the cheapest. I spent $10 on my first 90 cards for that deck.

I built a modern mono G stompy deck that's been making some waves for about $15. Kinda happy about that.

Constructed Daily Events generally have the best return. Six tickets to enter, if you go 3-1 you get 6 packs of the current set (usually you can sell for 2..8-3.2 tickets per pack), and if you 4-0 you get 11 packs. You get some Qualifier Points either way as well (I think you get one for 3-1'ing but I may be misremembering).

If you're interested in jumping right in, google mtggoldfish. They have lists of the top decks in each format online, as well as the approximate price.

More general advice:

I'm not sure if it was fixed in Version 4, but in version 3 the default priority stops were set horribly. Definitely take some time to set your stops correctly.

I would also invest in one of the top decks. That will allow you to go 3-1 at daily events, funding any less competitive decks you want to build, as well as other daily events.

what is competitive and cheap, and which format is the best to 'invest' in?

Also, how can one use unhinged lands for limited events? (I have seen LSV do this)
