I got a question for you all, what was Renaissance in MTG? when I learned this I was kind of surprised.

I'll let this forum grow for a while before I tell you all the answer, but since (I Think) the question in hard, here is a hint. I think ChiefBell has a higher likelihood of knowing the answer.

By renaissance I'm guessing you are using it as a metaphor for the first set in which wizards entered into an 'enlightened state of thinking' ie. brushed up the rules and tidied a lot of things up.

I'm guessing sixth edition. They tidied up the rarity symbols. Changed where artistic credits are printed on the card. They removed the tap symbol from lands. Tidied up the combat steps. Made cards like Dark Ritual instants instead of uncounterable 'mana abilities'.

Otherwise, if you mean - what is the renaissance set? Then it was a european only reprint for cards from antiquities I think.

And yes NorthernRaven you cheated, so no one look at his post. Or maybe edit to remove the link?

And no ChiefBell that is not it.

But anyway I came across a few of these cards in my collection in the past year and was trying to figure out how there were foreign Sunken City printed in The Dark when the Gatherer says it was only printed in english.

I noted ChiefBell because he can get foreign cards for us Americans, and this was a foreign exclusive set.

Will post photos later of the cards after prerelease.

I'm very into all the peculiar local releases that you can get. The Japanese Guild Lands etc.

So, it's basically part of German and French Revised or Fourth Edition (can't remember which) that was printed due to WotC policy. Before a card could be printed with a white border it had to be printed with black borders first. There was also a version printed in Italian that covered cards from Chronicles that weren't in Legends and the Dark.
