Why are there no comments on cards from M15 and after?

The commenting function has been down on Gatherer since about M15 when Wizards changed the look/layout. MaRo knows about it, and apparently other people at Wizards know, it's just a process to get it figured out/not high on their priority list to fix.

A few days ago, I saw all comments on Gatherer being really messed up. Each character in the comment was surrounded by three asterisks, like this.

So every comment on every card was almost unreadable, it was just a page full of asterisks

I feel like they are really lazy and don't care much about it since the comment section doesn't mean much to them. I doubt we'll see new comments this year.

The comment function was removed in the big wizards site overhaul a while back, when everything went night mode. They have since realized that people still want it, but there are other, more important things to fix first. That day when the comments looked all wonky, wizards was having some major issues, including the software that they distribute to stores to run events was down. I know people who had to run FNMs by hand (no software to make pairings and what not). I suspect the things they were working on before fixing comments was what they did with the downtime on monday and tuesday, but, as far as I know, they are still dealing with some bugs in the new combined wizards account thing.

That's a shame. I love to see other's opinions of cards, especially for related cards that are similar/better or have good interactions with.

It's kind of annoying that Wizards still hasn't fixed this. It makes me feel like they don't really care about the community. The comments and ratings are really useful for finding combos.

Several of the changes to the website in the past year seem to have purposefully been made to restrict the depth and flexibility of community interaction, which is really weird, and flies in the face of pretty much every other trend on the internet right now (I'm not saying all of those trends are necessarily good). In general, WotC's digital and online presence and competence - the website, the Wizards Account system, MtGO, DotP, WER and DCI-R - is just not good, and it seems like it gets progressively worse as time passes.

@Rhadamanthus Yeah, you're right. They just need to allocate some budget to getting some newer, more on top of things programmers. They (I'm pretty sure) have the money, so they're just being stingy.

They need to focus on what they're actually good at - creating and publishing games - and hire an outside resource to do the other stuff.

Oh man, it's been almost 10 months and still no mention of gatherer comments being fixed. It seems like a thing of the past now.
