Need Help getting Kruphix deck down to 100 cards.

Commander Deck Help forum

My Kruphixer Upper deck is intended to be a semi-budget Kruphix deck ($300-$400), but I still have an excess of 15 cards holding me back, and my lack of experience in playing blue makes feel unsure of what to remove in practice.

If anyone can help me pare down this deck, it would be quite appreciated!

I like to build a deck with some basic rules. You need to determine how you want the deck to playout. Try to ramp yourself early to get the advantage with land drops because you have green. Next i would think about how you want to win. Once youve picked your win conditions, i would try to determine any absolutely necessary cards to get there and keep those. Keep in mind, 3 color commander i think 38 land is a good number depending on ramp, but usually 38. Then i would count how many slots you have left after subtracting all the necessary ones from 100. Then i would pick cards that compliment the necessary ones with the remaining slots. As far as blue goes, just pick low cost counter spells, preferably ones without the double blue CMC. A good deck will keeps its CMC as low as possible, something close to 3 or lower is a good start. Each deck will change as you play it verse other people, you will need to mold it to them slightly to gain the most advantage. Hope this helps!

I suppose I should try to figure out what this deck wants to focus on.

Currently, I was just doing everything I could with X spells.

I realized that card draw - while an awesome tool - was not a primary part of my win conditions. So I was able to remove 5 X card draw spells.

Looking at it, first thing I would say is it does seem to be lacking some sort of theme besides X spells.

Cards I would personally cut

Rancor, Loxodon Warhammer, Haunted Cloak, Chariot of victory, Vorrac battlehorns- A lot of your creatures are going wide / benefits on that (Craterhoof, Hangarback, Hooded hydra kinda, Hydra broodmaster, gelatinis, verdeloth the ancient) over trampling over stuff. Having this many trample enablers is not going to be super great, cutting it down / removing them could help. Nylea, God of the Hunt could replace all of these and take use of your creature tutors.

Protean Hulk - Only can really grab hydra broodmaster, and pathbreaker ibex, seedborn muse or teferi with much effect, and you need to have a way to kill him as well. With the fact he is already 7 mana to put out, can be a dead card.

Basilisk Collar - The creatures you are playing with are going to be big enough for deathtouch to be less relevant, and lifelink is nice but at that point adding a card for lifelink isnt worth it Chariot of Victory, Haunted Cloak, Rancor

Leyline of lifeforce depending on meta - This stops you from countering your opponents creatures as well and considering you have a number of counters it could be a detriment

Vedalken Aethermage - Effect is VERY narrow, and wizardcycling only grabs teferi or trinket mage

Lifecraft Awakening - Most of the time you are going to want to put the mana towards something more impactful, this is essentially making a vanilla creature while making your artifact more vulnerable

Genesis Wave - Most of your creatures are base 0/0 creatures, and this kills them instead of putting them out. Aside from that, only a third of your deck is artifacts/creatures so only 1 in every 3 should in theory be something really useful

Wurmcalling - Normally this card is good if you are ramping hard because it gives you a mana dump every turn, but you are playing kruphix so you are usually going to want to save that mana up for something more impactful

Also, I see that cyclonic rift in your sideboard, if it isnt a cost issue, put it in. That card will win you so many games, and reduces your need for trample even more. dont need trample if they have no blockers

Thank you!

BTW, before I saw this, I ended up pulling out all the tutors to finally get the total down to 100. I'll be integrating your advice starting now!
