-1 Phyrexian Tower

+1 Vampire Cutthroat

+1 Umezawa’s Jitte

+1 Steelshaper’s Gift

Twilight Prophet in practice does work, but in favor of a slimmer curve we’re cutting it for Steelshaper’s Gift. I really think it’s worth it just to have a tutor just for Skullclamp but I’ve made room for Jitte as a alt card to tutor. As a deck that primarily wins during the combat step and attacks consistently we can rely on Jitte as removal. It’s also a meta call, there’s a lot of creatures including commanders who can be effectively locked out by a Jitte. The at will life gain can also be used to allow Oathsworn Vampire to be cast from the grave. Vampire Cutthroat is a evasive weenie that easily gets attacks in against most boardstates, netting counters safely for Jitte and producing tokens with Mavren Fein. More importantly it’s the relevant creature type at 1 cmc and quite a few plays can be made more easily with more cheap bodies to put on the board.

Phyrexian Tower is a relic of an older midrange build with Grave Pact, and in a opening hand it’s not producing relevant mana till you’re already set to have the mana to already cast creatures and it only gives you more of what you likely have enough of. I think it’s safe to cut this.

Volrath’s Stronghold is a pet card that has probably over stayed it’s welcome. It has niche synergy with Vampire Nocturnus and Twilight Prophet but we already have better recursion available.

Have you ever considered running Path to Exile ? 1 cmc removal that also functions as a ramp spell if you target a random vampire token you have laying around, if need be.

jakethewhale007 that’s a hilarious use for what’s normally spot removal. This actually makes me consider it worth a slot possibly because if you’re using it on a token it naturaly breaks even in card advantage. The problem as removal is that as a deck we capitalize on having faster tempo to win and it seems counterintuitive to potentially lose tempo because of it. I’d see it being used as removal most when it would make or break the game; e.g. exiling a Protean Hulk. Evaluating this card for it’s primary function it comes off as not so good for essentially being conditional value. I’ll think on it though. Thanks!
