9/11 Updates —Sept. 11, 2018

Added:

  • Crucible of Worlds: Wanted some kind of land recursion to compliment cards like Lake of the Dead, Strip Mine, Fetch lands, Mox Diamond and our overall discard theme.
  • Buried Ruin: Needed a small amount of artifact recursion
  • Strip Mine: Needed targeted land destruction
  • Polluted Delta: Currently my only black fetchland but plan to get Bloodstained Mire soon and then the other when budget allows
  • Mox Diamond: Wanted a little more early game ramp

Removed 4 Swamps and Mindcrank.

hellhole3927 Thanks for your feedback! This Chainer build has rapidly become one of my top favorite decks and is blast to play every time I pull it out. Demons are even more useful if you are able to abuse their ETB or LTB effects over and over. The early/mid game of this deck plays in a very toolbox manner where you are digging for answers for board state problems in your deck and graveyard. Once you get the mid-late to late game, the deck goes for the throat with it's many win conditions that synchronize well with one another.

However, one thing that I adore about the deck is how flexible it is for substitute commander play. You can easily swap Chainer into the 99 and play basically any of the other legendary creatures as the commander and the deck still functions quite well but gives you a slightly different play experience. Belzenlok will draw you a bunch of cards, Sidisi will be your command zone tutor, Kokusho wants to be abused back and forth to the command zone or graveyard, etc and so forth. Mono-black rules.

I was taking another look at your deck and I realized that you don't have Archfiend of Depravity in the deck. A 5/4 flying demon (cmc of 5) that forces your opponents to sacrifice all, but two of their creatures. Another nice size flying demon, not too expensive, that creates more targets in opponents graveyards for Chainer, Dementia Master to target. Personally I love the card.

hellhole3927 AoD was a consideration but ultimately a cut from my final list. His ability is fine but ultimately we can accomplish what he does in other ways. Up against a go-wide strategy? Demon of Dark Schemes or Kagemaro will feast. Have specific targets to take out? Noxious Gearhulk, Ravenous Chupacabra or Meteor Golem will take care of them for you. If we need people to sacrifice their stuff than Grave Pact and Butcher should be fine to keep the overall game state under control.
