I'm a newb player. Started with Zendikar. Friends - attempting to suck me into the game - bought my wife and I starter decks. Little did they know I have an obsessive personality and passion for strategy games. Thanks to help from this community everyone in my playgroup hates me. :)

I still don't play tournaments, and probably never will. I have little interest in playing a format with so few competitive options. However, I do keep up with the standard meta. It's good water-cooler talk.

From the list below, my favorite is Sleeper Ascension. It's not a big winner. It's just fun to play. Kresh, Prince of Blood Hair - that's a play on The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire - is another deck that gets silly when it starts rolling. I just started working on a second Commander deck. That seems to be the format that keeps drawing me back.
