What happens to spells cast with Hedonist's Trove?

Asked by beijaflor 10 years ago

When I cast a spell of my opponent from my trove does:

  • it stay in the trove and I could cast it next turn again?

  • it go on MY graveyard or exile?

  • it go on my opponents graveyard or exile?

The text on the card says:

  • "You may cast nonland cards exiled with Hedonist's Trove. You cant cast more than one spell this way each turn.

Wizards additional info is:

  • "Playing a card this way follows the normal rules for playing the card. You must pay its costs, and you must follow all applicable timing rules. For example, if one of the cards is a creature card, you can cast that card only during your main phase while the stack is empty."

  • "If Hedonists Trove leaves the battlefield, any cards it exiled remain exiled. Those cards can no longer be played."

The first info would let me to believe that "following the normal rules playing a card" means that once an instant is resolved or a creature cast this way, dies, it gos in the graveyard. But the last info indicates that cards exiled with Hedonist's Trove are in the trove and remain there. So I could play sorcery/instants/creatures as often as I want as "any cards it exiled remain exiled" ?!

So, I see the problem here. Imagine the Trove has an actual bag, and then you put stuff in the bag. When the Trove leaves, the bag stays, and it cannot be used. When you take something out of the bag, it is out of the bag, and goes where it would go regularly. If it has Rebound, YOU cast it at next Upkeep, THEN it goes to grave.

Also, it goes to its Owner's grave

Hmm, but who is the owner, me, as i stole the spell and it is my trove or the opponents as s/he was the original owner?

A card always goes to its owner's hand, library, or graveyard rather than any other player's.

When you cast a card exiled with Hedonist's Trove, you put it onto the stack as the first step in the casting process. After that point, it will behave normally. It won't return to exile because no effect is explicitly stating that it will.

The second ruling you quoted simply explains that any cards still exiled with Hedonist's Trove will remain in exile if Hedonist's Trove leaves the battlefield, and that the effect allowing you to cast them will no longer apply when this happens.

The owner is always the player who started the game with that card in his or her library. Ownership cannot change. Control may change, but control is not used to determine which zone something will go to.
