what does mill mean?

I know what it does...but where did the word "mill" actually come from. Why mill?

some people mill their opponent because they have a really high life total. some people make them mill themself to bring back high mana creatures with cards like call from the grave, or sheoldred, wispering one. i do not know how the word mill came to be, but i think it is a slang.

it originates from the card Millstone

Correct. Millstone has an ability known as mill when any # value is placed in the effect to mill.

ex: Target player puts the top 10 cards of his or her library into the graveyard.

This ability with any given # value is called "Milling"

in a lot of cases, espeshaly in casual play milling cand be faster than bringing someones life total down to 0 or less with a deck baised on milling and harder to counter
