Walls and Defender
Asked by ajh123 13 years ago
We all know that walls can't attack. Since the kamigawa block I believe, they have started using the term "defender". It was then errata that all walls have defender rather than saying (Walls can't attack) on every card.
If I were to enchant a wall with Mistform Mask and change it's type so it's no longer a wall, would it still be affected by defender? The card Mistform Wall has been changed to say "Mistform Wall has defender as long as it's a Wall" Is this implied for all walls with defender?

The point of introducing the Defender keyword was to take away the rules baggage associated with the Wall creature type. Mistform Wall was given that errata to its Oracle text to preserve its intended functionality (being able to "wake up" and attack by changing its creature type), but it was the only Wall changed in that way. Changing the creature type of a creature doesn't take away any abilities it has, and that means a Wall of Stone who gets turned into a Goblin won't lose Defender.
