Trample Players/planeswalkers
Asked by mankle 12 years ago
Lets say I'm attacking with any random 9/9 with trample if a kill there blocker of 1/1 and then choose to redirect damage onto a planes walker lets say loyalty at 4 would the other 3 points of damage go to the player? or not since it's redirected. And for further clarification on redirection of damage could use something like Annihilating fire to deal damage to both the player and Planeswalker. Thanks in advance.

Actually, only non-combat damage can be redirected to a planeswalker when it would be dealt to its controller (like Lava Axe ).With creatures and attacking, it's different. Whenever a creature attacks, you declare whether it's attacking the defending player, or his or her planeswalker (and which one, in case there are more than one). Then the defending player can assign blockers as per regular attack. Trample then works the same way it would work if you had attacked that player. Any damage beyond the blocking ceatures' toughness will be assigned to the planeswalker you chose to attack.
