Thromok the Insatiable

Correct me if I'm wrong please. I was looking at Thromok, the insatiable and I had a question about his ability. He has Devour X. So basically, the amount of +1/+1 counters he gets are perfect squares (1, 4, 9, 16...) for each creature you sac when he comes into play, square that and he gets that many +1/+1 counters. Is this correct?

Yes. If you choose to devour 1 creature, Thromok, the Insatiable has devour 1 (resulting in one counter) If you choose to devour 4 creatures, it has devour 4 (resulting in 4x4=16 counters). Since the devour number and the number of creatures devoured will always be the same, the total counters placed on it will always be the square of either one.
