The New Misthollow Griffin
Asked by Wabbbit 13 years ago
Would there be a way to exile Misthollow Griffin with say, Nephalia Smuggler and then cast him? Or would you have to use something like Helvault ?
If you exiled it with Helvault , then cast it, then it was either (1) Exiled by another source or (2) Put into the graveyard, then the Vault was destoyed, would it come back to the battlefield?

Helvault has what are called "linked" abilities. When Helvault is destroyed, its last ability triggers. The only cards that it will return are those that are currently in exile whose most recent cause of being in exile is Helvault.
1/22/2011: Helvault's first and third abilities are linked. Similarly, Helvault's second and third abilities are linked. Only cards exiled as a result of Helvault's first or second abilities will be returned to the battlefield by its third ability.

It all depends on how Misthollow Griffin is exiled.
Nephalia Smuggler
exiles a creature, but that creature returns to the battlefield immediately. It comes back during the resolution of the same ability, and therefore it will return from exile before you would get priority to cast it again.
With Helvault
, Misthollow Griffin would only return from exile if Helvault i destroyed. If Misthollow Griffin is exiled by it, you may cast Misthollow Griffin from exile at any time you normally could.
