Souls of the faultless ability and damage

I would like to ask.. Souls of the faultless 0/4 defender and has an ability of "Whenever Souls of the Faultless is dealt combat damage, you gain that much life and attacking player loses that much life."

A opponents creature.. with 5/5 attacked.. and I blocked it with soul of the faultless which is 0/4..

Would I be able to have that triggered effect..???

Im sorry but im just a newbie at mtg.. thank you for your help..

This one is relatively simple. When Souls of the Faultless blocks the 5/5 creature, it will die and then the trigger for the ability will go on the stack, gaining you 5 life and causing the attacking player to lose 5 life.

If your opponent attacked with a 5/5, and you blocked with Souls of the Faultless, you will gain 5 life, your opponent will lose 5 life, and Souls of the Faultless will die.
