Searing blood ruling?

Asked by Pixey 9 years ago

so i was thinking recently if i cast more than one searing blood on a single creature and it dies does the 3 additional damage stack? if so it seems like a very useful spell, you could pump a enemy creature and kill it with multiple searing blood dealing a total of 12 damage.

Searing Blood

Yes. Searing Blood creates a delayed triggered ability (DTA) that triggers when the creature dies this turn. Each Searing Blood creates its own DTA, and each DTA will trigger if the creature dies.

I believe that as long as the creature does not die to the first-resolving Searing Blood, the 3 damage will occur for each resolved Searing Blood. If the creature dies before another Searing Blood resolves, that Searing Blood will fizzle as it will not have a legal target.

EDIT: Welp, ninja'd by Epoch. Is the last part of my response correct? Does a Searing Blood fizzle if the creature it's targeting dies before it resolves, or will the 3 damage still occur even if the 2 damage to the creature isn't dealt? Or is it dealt...? I'm bad at this. Done answering Q&A's, haha.

Yes, that's correct. If a spell or ability's targets are all illegal, the spell or ability is countered by the game rules when it would resolve. So you can't hit a 2/2 with multiple Searing Bloods; it'll die after the first and the rest will fizzle.
