Rules Challenge - Lone Wolf and Weathered Bodyguards

Asked by KrazyCaley 11 years ago

I control Lone Wolf . My opponent controls Weathered Bodyguards , which is untapped and face up. I attack with Lone Wolf and my opponent blocks with Weathered Bodyguards .

Can I have my Lone Wolf deal combat damage to my opponent?

Yes you can. Lone Wolf is still blocked. It only "can assign damage as though it weren't". Its ability doesn't make it unblocked.

Well THAT was anticlimactic. Dead-on correct.

Yes, you may chose to assign the damage to your opponent, but the damage will be dealt to Weathered Bodyguards as the damage that Lone Wolf assigns to your opponent, is still combat damage.

@Dallie - Noooo. The damage IS dealt to your opponent, and it isn't redirected to Weathered Bodyguards because Lone Wolf IS blocked, and Weathered Bodyguards requires the redirection damage to be from an unblocked creature.

I should RTFC. I totally skipped that "Unblocked" part.

I think that judges are required to tattoo "RTFC" onto their arms.

If you already know the answer to the question you're posting, why are you posting it?
