Is there such a thing as official rules for EDH two-headed giant at 6 players +?

Asked by PValBlanc 10 years ago

So We ended up with six people showing up for our EDH night and decided it would be more efficient to make teams. It didn't take too long to realise that things could get pretty complicated rules-wise. So are there any official rules for this? Or shall we just make our own house rules for it?

2HG is officially only played with two teams of two players. In a social setting, you may choose to modify the rules to fit your needs, but you might want to consider some other options first.

What you're looking for is a variation of Team vs. Team with two teams of three players.

Alternatively, you could play Emperor.

In our case it was actually 3 teams of 2 players.

What we did was 60 life per team, or 10 poison, or 21 from any 1 commander.

The rest we applied 2HG rulings in so far as possible, but given three teams when effects effected the whole board (or opponent/player nuances) things got complex.

You're going to be looking to combine EDH rules with Team vs. Team for three teams of two players, then. There's no official formula for doing this because you're mixing EDH rules with formats designed for 60-card constructed, but you can tweak the starting life and other options as you see fit.

It was complicated, but it was more than enough fun to warrant brewing up some house rules. Thanks a bunch for the answers Epoch.
