How to pick a player at random with Scrambleverse
Asked by Gatecrashed 12 years ago
I hope this is the correct place to post this, I wasn't really sure if this was technically a rule question or not, so sorry if somebody has to move it to a more correct location. But the other day I was playing casual multiplayer, and I cast Scrambleverse , and I really had no idea what to do. How do you pick a player at random when there are 3-4 people playing?

It's an appropriate question for the Q&A.
You have a few options. You can select a die with at least as many sides as there are possible choices, assign each choice a number, and roll (any unassigned numbers are rerolls). You could also use a phone/electronic device app to calculate a random selection for you. If you're using a phone, try searching for random chance generators. Board games and role playing games sometimes require them, so there will be a few options out there.
Ultimately, you just need a fair way to select one of the possible options (fair meaning statistically and preferentially unbiased).

As with most cases where a random card needs to be chosen from a hand, you assign each player a number and roll a die until one of those numbers is chosen. It's about as random as you can get without using a RNG.

Oh, dear. I wasn't implying that what I said was the official ruling. I was only trying to state what I do.
