How long can your opponent shuffle your deck?
Asked by KevyawTheMighty 10 years ago
So i was playing magic with my friends the other day, and one of them got really pissed after round 1 cause i won. So as we get into round two i fetched for a land then let my friend shuffle my deck. And he kept shuffling my deck until i gave up. Is this legal?
First off, this should be in the Rules Q&A section.
At competitive REL, it's definitely not legal under the "Slow Play" rules. Your friend would be given a warning by a judge and told to keep the shuffling within reason.
For FNM, it would still be considered Slow Play, but no official warning would be given. The best you could do is use peer pressure to make your friend stop shuffling so much.
At kitchen table, (playfully) punch him in the arm and tell him to stop being a sore loser.

This seems to easily fall under "Unsporting Conduct", which isn't acceptable even at Regular REL and should (if that was the ruling of the Judge or TO) result in a DQ. I don't think you should ever be as "helpless" in this situation as meechts post suggests.
At Kitchen Table REL(tm), you'd have to rely on your rhetoric and your opponent's willingness to play the game fair. Unfortunately, like any other game, if people don't want to play by the rules, the rules won't help you solve it...

No. Usually you shuffle the deck, and he just cuts it.
