how does haunt work?

Asked by patrickloyd 11 years ago

this may sound silly but the wording is a little confusing, do you exile both or one creature? :|

Your question doesn't really make sense, especially because there are non-creatures with Haunt.

When something with Haunt goes to the graveyard in a way that triggers haunt (A spell with haunt resolves, a creature with haunt goes to the graveyard) it is exiled haunting a target creature.

Then, when the creature being haunted goes to the graveyard, the effect of the haunting thing happens.

So for a card like Absolver Thrull , when it enters the battlefield, it destroys target enchantment. Then when it dies, it is exiled haunting another creature. When the haunted creature dies, the absolver thrull destroys another target enchantment.

The haunted creature goes to the graveyard like normal, the haunting object stays exiled.

When the card with haunt is put into a graveyard, you exile it "haunting" a target creature. When the haunted creature dies, the exiled card's ability triggers. The exiled card will remain in exile. Note that instants and sorceries with haunt need to resolve before going to the graveyard; otherwise, their haunt abilities won't trigger.
