How do I know that Cromat is an Illusion?
Asked by Grimaldii 12 years ago
Hey Folks!,
Possibly a silly question.. but I've only been playing since the 2012 core set, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of older cards.
I've heard Cromat referred to as a legendary Illusion, but it doesn't seem to say that anywhere on the card, it just reads 'Creature - Legend'. Is there some rules update somewhere that retroactively applies types to lots of older legendary cards?

Any time you see a card in the older card frame like Cromat is, you need to go to look up the card's updated Oracle text at places like Gatherer (Aikola's link) or magiccards.info. The rules of the game have evolved and altered over time, and some cards have had some changes to their effective text since they were originally printed.
In Cromat's case, among other things, "Legend" was changed from a creature type to a supertype, meaning it was removed from that side of the type line and put over in front of "creature".

Its all here on its Gatherer page, this is a good source of all up to date errata for all cards.
